Planetary gear unit


Planetary gear unit consists of planetary gears, wet
clutches and brakes. Most of the A/T has 2 or 3
planetary gears in it.

The wet clutches and the brakes are controlled by


oil pressure from the hydraulic control unit. Each
gear elements (ring gear, sun gear, pinion gear and
planetary carrier) are fixed and released by them.

Constant velocity
The ring gear and the sun gear rotate as input. There is no rotation on the pinion gear. The planetary carrier is
rotated as output in same speed of input power.

Reduction
The sun gear is fixed. The ring gear is rotated as the input. The pinion gears revolve around the sun gear with
rotation. The input speed is reduced by the pinion gears and transmitted to the planetary carrier as the output.
