Bobbie and Phyllis sent to Mrs Ransome some roses and one of
Bobbie’s prettiest handkerchief in a box because they felt sorry
as nobody remembered her birthday

After she received the children’s present for her birthday Mrs
Ransome thanked the children and gave them their box full of
shinny red apples as a present to Perks.Also she gave them a
pram that was for her daughter’s first child who died after six
months. She wanted to give it to Mrs Perks for her little boy

Perks was upset when he saw the presents because he thought
that these presents were charity . He also thought that people
in the village will laugh at him and think that he can’t take care
of his family and that they have to give him things

when he saw the presents ?
The children explained that the presents were not charity , but
people in the village were happy to give Perks birthday presents
. Also , the woman at the post office wanted him to have the
pram that was for her daughter’s first child who died after six
months. Also, the old gentleman gave Peter a pound and said
that Perks was a man who was good at his work.
*”I am not sending the pram back”Who said that ?to
whom ? when?
Mrs Perks said that to Perks when he felt upset when he saw
the presents and thought they were charity and wanted to send
them back

Perks took back every word he said and was very happy not
only with the presents but also with the kind thoughts of his
neighbors. He thanked the children and invited them for tea .

strangers . Give evidence
The children were thoughtful and considerate towards
strangersas they decided to delay having a cake till Thursday to
celebrate Perks’ birthday. Also they asked people in the village
to give Perks a nice birthday. Bobbie and Phyllis sent to Mrs
Ransome some roses and one of Bobbie’s prettiest
handkerchief in a box because they felt sorry as nobody
remembered her birthday
*Both Mother and Perks had dignity . Mention two
situation in which they reacted in the same way
Both Mother and Perks had dignity .Mother felt angry when her
children asked the old gentleman to bring the things that
doctor asked for mother when she was ill to get well and said
even if they were poor they shouldn’t ask strangers for things.
Also Perks felt angry and upset when he saw the presents that
the children collected from the villagers and thought they were
charity because he was poor.
