short (ca. 15-20 slides) for 15-20 min presentation,
followed by Q&A session and discussion
• Use of Microsoft PowerPoint with CST slide master
(see MOODLE) is mandatory
• Orthography is essential
• The presentation can be either held in English or
German. English is preferred.
• Slides and spoken language can differ (e. g. English

What is important for the course

Content and structure I

• Publication contents should be understood by the
presenter and critically discussed.

Please do not generate slides by just copying the

most beautiful paper figures, using their captions
as text and adding some animations!

What is important for the course

Content and structure I

• Publication contents should be understood by the
presenter and critically discussed.
• The presentation needs a didactic structure and
robust and logical argumentation
• The presentation should explain the contents to the
audience.
• If helpful, other sources of data and information can
be implemented (with reference).
• Pictures and tables can be transferred from the
publication, but need to be cited. Sufficient citing
style: Author et al., Journal, Year

What is important for the course

Content and structure II:

• The focus is on the quality of the presentation.
• This means that it is definitely not required (and
neither useful nor possible) to try to present all
aspects / sub-topics of the paper.
• Focus on certain aspects and present them in a
logical, comprehensive und understandable way.
• You may also disagree with results presented or
conclusions drawn.
• Please make sure that you have a quiet room and
adequate hardware available (for the ZOOM parts).
Please check your microphone quality in advance.

9
Assessment
The course consists of the following parts:
1. Draft slides given to the assistant in advance
(corrections/improvements until approval)
2. Test / rehearsal presentation (via ZOOM)
3. Final presentation (in presence)

• All parts have to be delivered in time (with

some flexibility) to pass!
• Grading depends on your curriculum
("Prüfungsordnung“)
• Please consult your assistant for any info, help
and support
