Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q.1. What is e-Toycathon 2025?


The e-Toycathon 2025 is an event organized under the project, titled “Development of
Electronics and IT Based Control and Automation Solutions for Consumer (Toys Industry)
Electronics Goods: An Initiative for SC/ST/NER Communities” implemented by C-DAC
Noida and funded by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of
India. The e-Toycathon 2025 is an Initiative for engineering graduates to showcase their
creativity and technical skills by developing electronic toy prototypes.

Q.2. What is the objective of e-Toycathon 2025?


Through e-Toycathon 2025, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government
of India is trying to provide young engineers with an opportunity to help toy industry, by
developing creative and innovative electronic toys prototypes. This competition will promote
teamwork, problem-solving, and practical application of engineering concepts and contribute
towards Indian toys development.

Q.3. Who can participate in the e-Toycathon 2025?


Undergraduate students of engineering, of any stream are eligible to participate in the e-
Toycathon 2025.

Q.4. Is there any Prize Money for the winners of e-Toycathon 2025?
Exciting prizes of up to Rs. 4 Lakhs will be awarded to the winners! With First, second and
third prize of Rs. 200000, Rs. 100000 and Rs. 50000 respectively. In addition, two special
awards of Rs. 25,000 each will be given for unique innovations and creative ideas. Every
participant will also receive a certificate of participation.

Q.5. Why should you participate in e-Toycathon 2025?


 To conduct R&D, design, and develop prototypes for innovative electronic toys
 Collaborate with industry experts and engage with potential investors.
 Utilize the state-of-the-art facilities at CDAC, Noida.
 Gain guidance and insights from experienced industry professionals.
 Participation in e-Toycathon 2025 offers institutes and individual enhanced visibility
and recognition among academic, industrial, and governmental sectors.

Q.6. e-Toycathon 2025 will be conducted in Online or Offline mode?


The e-Toycathon will be conducted in both online and offline formats. Stage 1 will be held
online, where teams will submit their solutions to the selected problem statements within the
given timeline. Shortlisted teams will present their solutions online from January 13-17, 2025.
Teams advancing to Stage 2 will then physically develop their toy prototypes during the main
event, scheduled for February 25-28, 2025 at CDAC Noida.

Q.7. How many teams can participate from an institute and how many members in a team?
From each institute, two teams can register and participate. Each team can have minimum 2 to
maximum 4 members from engineering courses.

Q.8. Who is SPOC?
The e-Toycathon 2025 team will be communicating with the institute SPOC (Single Point of
Contact) official during every phase of the competition. The SPOC official may be a faculty
member in the institute.

Q.9. What is the role of SPOC?


The SPOC is responsible for the following:
a. Register the institute for participating in the e-Toycathon. The registration dates for
institute are 25 Nov 2024 -16 Dec 2024.
b. The SPOC should nominate 2 teams for the event and register them for the e Toycathon.
The team registration will begin from 17-22 December 2024.
c. The SPOC will be responsible for all communications related to the event.

Q.10. How/When will the team get the problem statement?


Teams will have to select their respective problem statements during the registration process
from December 17-22, 2024.

Q.11. Can the team change the problem statement?


No. During the team registration, the teams will select the problem statement. In no
circumstances, problem statement once selected can be changed.

Q.12. What are the important dates for the e-Toycathon 2025?
• Team selection at Institute level: 25 Nov-16 Dec, 2024 (maximum 2 teams from each
college/institute)
• Team Registration Deadline: 17-22 Dec, 2024
• Stage 1 Presentation Deadline: 13-17 Jan, 2025
• Announcement of Stage 1 Results: 18 Jan, 2025
• Stage 2 Development Period: 18-26 Jan, 2025
• Submission of Design/Requirement: 26 Jan, 2025
• Final Development/Demonstration Event: 25-27 Feb, 2025
• Award Ceremony: 28 Feb, 2025

Q.13. Is it compulsory for an individual to register as a team to participate in e- Toycathon


2025?
Yes.

Q.14. Is there any participation fee?


No

Q.15. What is the stage 1 of the competition and what the teams need to submit?
Stage 1 presentation will take place online from January 13 to January 17, 2025. All team
members must be present for the stage 1 online presentations. Teams have to present a power
point presentation detailing the toy design, including its specifications, functionality, a block
diagram, PCB schematic, layout, and a Bill of Materials (BOM) etc based on the selected
problem statement. Additionally, teams are required to design the toy’s outer structure, which
should also be included in the presentation.

Q.16. What is the Stage 2 of the competition?
15-20 teams will be shortlisted for stage 2 event. The selected teams will be announced on 18th
January 2025. During January 18 to January 26, 2025, selected teams will have the opportunity
to perfect their prototype by adding the final touches. This phase is critical for enhancing both
the functionality and visual appeal of your design before moving into the development stage.

Q.17. What the teams need to submit for Stage 2 if they selected?
During this period, selected teams need to submit final key files, including the PCB Gerber
files, Bill of Materials (BOM), and 3D modeling files (in their native format, along with .stl
format) for the printing process, which will be handled by CDAC Noida. Additionally, if there
are any specific requirements—such as materials, colors, screw and components—needed for
the toy's complete prototype, be sure to specify them with proper specifications in your
submission. Teams must prepare and submit portfolio and manual of their respective toy.

Q.18. What should the participants carry with them during the main event?
The participants selected for the stage 2 must carry their college id along with a valid
government ID proof when they report for main event at CDAC, Noida.

Q.19. Can the electronic toys be designed using development boards?


No. Usage of any development boards for designing the toys is not allowed as per the
guidelines. Each team is required to design actual PCB for the toy.

Q.20. Will the team be provided accommodation during the main event?
Logistics and accommodation arrangements, if required, of teams reaching stage 2 will be made
by CDAC Noida.

Q.21. Will CDAC provide support for PCB/outer structure printing facility?
Teams selected for Stage 2 will need to submit their final PCB and outer structure design files
to CDAC Noida for printing. During the final Development/Demonstration Event, teams will
receive the printed materials and on-board components to develop their final prototype. The
cost for printing and materials will be borne by CDAC Noida.

Q.22. Who will hold the copyright of the final design of the toys?
The final designs that will be presented in the stage 2 of final Development/Demonstration event
during 25-27 Feb, 2025 will be the copyright of CDAC Noida.
