E. Lesson Proper
Based on your activity. What do you think is
our topic for today? Sir, our topic for today is all about the
Philippine National Anthem.
Correct! Our topic for today is all about the
Philippine National Anthem.

Anyone, from the class do you have any idea

about our National Anthem: Lupang Hinirang Sir for me, Lupang Hinirang, the Philippine
National Anthem, is more than just a song.
Yes correct, it is a powerful symbol of the
country’s history, struggles, and aspirations.
Its lyrics and melody embody the spirit of the
Filipino people and their fight for freedom
and independence.

The anthem's melody was composed by Julian

Felipe in 1898, originally as an instrumental
march titled "Marcha Nacional Filipina." It
was played during the declaration of
Philippine independence on June 12, 1898, in
Kawit, Cavite. At the time, the anthem had no
lyrics and was simply a patriotic march.

The lyrics we know today were penned by

José Palma in Spanish in 1899, under the title
"Filipinas." The anthem’s lyrics have since
been translated into various Philippine
languages, but the official version is in
Filipino.

Do you have any question?

Yes Sir, is it true that Lupang Hinirang is
more than just a national symbol?
Yes, because it serves as a reminder of the
sacrifices made by Filipino heroes in the quest
for independence. Singing the anthem is an
act of honoring these heroes and expressing Thank you so much Sir! We understand now.
unity as a nation.
Any questions? (Another student raises his hand) Sir, another
question in what particular event can we sing
our national anthem?

Good question class! To answer it, the anthem

is performed at official events, ceremonies,
and gatherings, where Filipinos stand at
attention to show respect. It is also sung at the
beginning of the school day in Philippine
schools, instilling a sense of national pride
and identity in the younger generation.

Thank you so much Sir!

I really appreciate you asking questions Yes, Sir! Just one more question. If we do not
because, I know through asking questions, perform the National Anthem properly, is
you really listen to my discussion. Please let there any punishment?
me know if you have more questions.

Woah! I’m about to discuss it and I’m grateful

that you asked this question.

Yes, there is, the anthem is protected by law,

specifically under Republic Act No. 8491,
also known as the Flag and Heraldic Code of
the Philippines. The law mandates that the Thank you, Sir, so it is very important to

and that it should be performed with the
proper decorum. Disrespect or misuse of the
anthem is considered a violation of this law
and can lead to penalties.

If you don’t have any questions, let’s now

discuss the proper gestures for the beat of
'Lupang Hinirang' when we sing it. Let us
watch this video.
