starting the job.

6.0 EQUIPMENT, TOOLS & MATERIALS

1. Drilling/pit excavation tools

2. Standard Electrical tool box
3. Earth Resistance Tester(Megger)
4. Multi-meter
5. Measuring equipment
6. Earth electrode, Test kit (earth tester).
7. Fall protection equipment.

MATERIAL
Earthing system material shall be in line with the approved material submittal.

7.0. CONSTRUCTION METHODOLOGY AND SEQUENCE OF WORK

7.1. Handling & Storage
1. When material arrived at site shall be inspected via MIR, and ensured that the
materials are as per approved materials submittal.
2. Necessary precaution shall be taken for unloading, shifting and storage as
follows.
3. Storage of material to follow manufacturer’s recommendation and project
specifications.
4. Material shall be stored in a covered/dry space at all time to avoid corrosion.
5. Discrepancies, damage etc. found will be notified and reported for further
action.
6. Material found not suitable for site use will be removed from site immediately

7.2. Installation of Earthing System.

1. Check the location of earth bars as per the approved construction drawings
2. Confirm size of PVC conduit & Cu cables as per approved drawings.
3. Check that consultant approved materials are used for installation.
4. Check the site area is clean & safe.
5. Ensure that all materials to be installed are free than any damage.
6. Ensure that manufacturer supplied accessories are used for the
installation.
7. Connect ECC (Y/G Cable, size as per approved SLD) Cable to disconnecting
point of earth bar with suitable lugs located at equipment room.
8. Install the same ECC till the pit location through conduits / cable trays as
per site conditions. This ECC lead to be connected to earth rod after
installing the rods with suitable U bolt clamps as detailed in the earthing
layouts.
9. Locate the Pit as per approved Earthing Drawings.
10. Drive Earth Electrodes to the soil using hammer (if the soil is hard and
rocky – use vertical boring machine). We recommend vertical boring
machine to make holes for Earth Rod and back fill with Furse CEM after the
installation of earth rod. This is to get better resistance reading. Contractor
can either use same soil or Furse CEM for back filling.
11. Check the resistance of the rods with earth tester using fall of potential
method.
12. Extent rod length using suitable coupler and drive deeper till achieve
desired resistance.
13. Resistance should be less than 1 Ohm for equipment earthing system & 10
Ohms for LPS earthing.
Earth Seal Installation (If required)
14. For Earth Seal Installation (If proposed). Install Earth rod as per the terms
mentioned above at proper locations mentioned in the approved Earthing
Layout.
15. Install bottom membrane seal - positioning installed earth rod at the
middle of seal. Tight the membrane seal with membrane spanner set
provided. Place & Install 50 mm Earth Rod tube seal positioning rod inside
the tube. Length of seal tube is as the raft height.
16. Place 400 x 400 mm wooden cut out on top of raft before casting the
concrete. This is for the installation of Earth pit in future.
17. Installation of Plastic Earth Pit: Make suitable holes on Pit with drilling
machine for cable entry & Looping.
18. Place top seal assembly on tube, place plastic pit, install seal pack inside
tube on rod.
19. Tight the rod seal cover, tight it properly.
20. Back fill pit sides with cement so that pit top shall be flush to the concrete.
A,Testing Procedure
1. Testing of earthing system for the project including earth continuity
tests in accordance with the requirements of project specification.
2. On completion of the installation of the earthing work, resistance of
ground shall be tested with megger and witnessed by the consultant.
3. Individual pit resistance for the Earthing system rods shall be less than
the specified 1 Ohm.
4. Record the values and tabulate readings in the enclosed format &
submit for approval.
5. Special tests for earth continuity shall be done and witnessed by the
consultant.
8.0. INSPECTION & TESTING
