Coffee
preparing (e.g., drip, French press, espresso, etc.). Here's a general guide for making coffee using
different methods:
• Water
Steps:
1. Grind the Coffee Beans: If you're using whole coffee beans, grind them to a medium-coarse
texture (similar to sand). You'll need about 1 to 2 tablespoons of coffee per 6 ounces of
water, depending on how strong you like your coffee.
2. Fill the Water Reservoir: Pour cold, fresh water into the coffee maker's reservoir.
3. Add Coffee Grounds: Place a coffee filter in the filter basket and add the ground coffee into
it.
4. Start the Coffee Maker: Turn on the coffee maker. The hot water will drip over the coffee
grounds, extracting the coffee flavors as it brews.
5. Serve and Enjoy: Once the brewing process is finished, pour the coffee into your mug. Add
sugar, milk, or cream if desired.
Steps:
1. Boil Water: Heat water to about 200°F (93°C), just below boiling.
2. Grind the Coffee Beans: Grind your coffee beans coarsely (similar to breadcrumbs). Use
about 1 to 2 tablespoons of coffee per 6 ounces of water.
3. Add Coffee Grounds: Place the ground coffee into the French press.
4. Pour Water: Slowly pour the hot water over the coffee grounds, ensuring they are fully
saturated. Stir gently with a spoon.
5. Let It Steep: Place the lid on the French press but don't press it down yet. Let the coffee
steep for 4 minutes.
6. Press the Plunger: After steeping, slowly press the plunger down to separate the grounds
from the brewed coffee.
7. Serve and Enjoy: Pour the coffee into your mug. Add any sweeteners or milk as desired.
3. Pour-Over Coffee
Steps:
1. Boil Water: Boil water and allow it to cool for about 30 seconds so it reaches around 200°F
(93°C).
2. Grind the Coffee Beans: Grind your coffee beans to a medium-coarse texture (similar to sea
salt). Use about 1 to 2 tablespoons of ground coffee per 6 ounces of water.
3. Set Up the Filter: Place a coffee filter in the pour-over cone and set it on top of your mug or
carafe.
4. Add Coffee Grounds: Place the ground coffee into the filter.
5. Pour Water: Slowly pour a small amount of hot water over the coffee grounds to wet them
(this is called "blooming"). After 30 seconds, continue pouring in slow, circular motions until
you've added all the water.
6. Wait for Brewing: Allow the water to fully drain through the coffee grounds.
7. Serve and Enjoy: Once brewed, remove the pour-over filter and enjoy your coffee.
4. Espresso
Espresso is made using an espresso machine. It requires finely ground coffee and high pressure.
Steps:
1. Grind the Coffee Beans: Use a fine grind (like powdered sugar) for espresso.
2. Preheat the Machine: Turn on the espresso machine and allow it to reach the proper
brewing temperature.
3. Add Coffee Grounds: Place the coffee grounds into the portafilter. Use about 18-20 grams of
coffee for a double shot.
4. Tamp the Grounds: Use a tamper to press the coffee grounds evenly and firmly into the
portafilter.
5. Brew the Espresso: Lock the portafilter into the espresso machine and start the shot. It
should take about 25–30 seconds for the espresso to extract.
6. Serve and Enjoy: Once brewed, pour the espresso into a small cup. You can drink it as is or
use it as a base for drinks like lattes, cappuccinos, or americanos.
5. Instant Coffee
Steps:
1. Boil Water: Heat water to about 200°F (93°C).
2. Add Instant Coffee: Place 1 to 2 teaspoons of instant coffee into your mug.
3. Pour Hot Water: Add hot water over the instant coffee. Stir to dissolve.
General Tips:
• Water Quality: The quality of water plays a big role in your coffee's taste. Use filtered or
fresh water for the best flavor.
• Adjust Strength: The strength of your coffee can be adjusted by changing the ratio of coffee
to water. More coffee for stronger coffee, less for a lighter brew.
• Grind Fresh: If possible, grind your coffee beans fresh for a more aromatic and flavorful
brew.
Enjoy your coffee, whether you like it strong, black, or with a splash of cream!
