Worksheet 1: Working with Windows
1. Turn on the Computer
 Observe and identify the Desktop Environments: the different Icons and their use
(Computer, Network, and Recycle Bin…), the Taskbar, the Start Button and the
Indicators at the right end of the Taskbar.
2. Start Paint Program
 Draw Ethiopian Flag using paint tools

 Practice the following picture using the paint tool to draw the picture so that you
can control the mouse movement.

3. Save your picture in local disk D by the name Worksheet1


4. Open your picture
5. Identify and use the following buttons in paint program
 Maximize in paint window
 Restore down in paint window
 Resize in paint window
 Close in paint window

Worksheet 2: Working with Windows

1. Create a folder on your Local Disk (C:) and name it as "worksheet2"


2. Open ' word pad'
3. Write the following document

What is a computer?
A computer is an electronic device that accepts data, from the user, process it and gives the
required output back to the user.

A computer is a programmable electronic device which enables us to process information, i.e. to


capture, store, retrieve, communicate and transform data.

Valuable Information
To be valuable to users, information should have the following characteristics:

 Accurate,
 Complete,
 Flexible,
 Reliable,
 Relevance,
 Accessible and
 It should also be timely
and economical.

4. For the titles use the following formatting


 Font type: Times New Roman, Font size: 18, Color: Red, Bold, Italic, Underline and
align : center
5. For the document use the following formatting
 Font type: Bookman Old Style, Font size: 12, Color: blue
 Use the appropriate formatting as depicted above for the whole document
 Insert the above pictures and drawings in your document
6. Save the document with name "tutor 2" in the folder “worksheet2".
7. Identify the Title bar, Menu bar, Tool bar, Address Bar and Status bar on the opened window.

Worksheet 3: Working with Windows
1. Create the following directory structure using windows Explorer in local disk D.

2. Create the following file using word pad.

What is computer?
A computer is a machine that can be instructed to carry out sequences of
arithmetic or logical operations automatically via computer programming. Modern computers have the ability
to follow generalized sets of operations
, called programs. These programs enable computers to perform an extremely wide range of tasks.
I. Save the above document under the folder HNS by the name worksheet3
II. Select the title in the sentence above and make it Bold, Italic and Underline. Use font type
“Monotype Corsiva” and Font size= 24.
III. Identify the Title bar, Menu bar, Tool bar, Address Bar and Status bar of word pad window.
IV. Delete the folder ITServiceMngmt.
V. Create a folder Mngmt under HNS
VI. Rename the folder Mngmt by Net
VII. Copy the file worksheet3 from the folder HNS to the folder DBA
VIII. Copy the file called worksheet3 from the folder HNS to the folder Net.
IX. Rename the file folder WEB to WM
X. Move/Cut the file worksheet3 from folder DBA to WM

Worksheet 4: Working with Windows
1. Change desktop theme.
2. Change the background of the desktop
3. Increase the size of windows(Smaller or medium or large)
4. Set your desktop background as Tulips
5. Make the screen saver by using 3D Text, which displays “Konatan computer” and set it to
appear when the computer is left idle for 2 minutes.
