and night.

sun

day night
Section E: Short Questions (10 Marks)

1. Why can we see the Moon at night even though it is not a light source?

We can see the Moon because it reflects light from the Sun. The Sun’s
light shines on the Moon, and the Moon sends that light back to us, so it
looks like it’s glowing!

2. Explain why shadows are shorter at noon.

Shadows are shorter at noon because the Sun is directly above us in the sky.
When the Sun is high, the light hits objects straight down, so the shadow is
small and close to the object. In the morning or evening, the Sun is lower, and
the light hits at an angle, making longer shadows.

3. What is the difference between transparent, translucent, and opaque materials?

- Transparent: Let all light through - (example - glass)

- Translucent: Let some light through but not clear (example - frosted glass)
- Opaque: Block all light (example - wood).
4. Name two surfaces that reflect light well.

Mirror
Shiny metal

5. Why is the Sun considered the most important source of light for Earth?

The Sun is the main source of light and heat. It helps plants grow,
provides energy for life, and keeps Earth warm enough for living
things to survive.
