Research Highlights of Plenary Research

The plenary of research highlighted different presentations from

different Batangas State University faculty members and distinguished guests,

during the presentation of University President Dr. Tirso Ronquillo. He

emphasizes embracing future thinking to advance education, research, and

innovation. One of the striking slides that caught my interest was the slides

tackling the following: “We’re not just preparing students for the future; we

are preparing to create it. It was evident that change is part of our life,

integrating newly invented technology will create spaces for learners to

unleash their potential for industry needs.

Additionally, I admire his session when he gives us viewers a glimpse of

the university's plans to put their vision into action. He discussed the benefit of

“Steer Hub” to the holistic development of learners in Science and

Mathematics. Through his talk, I realized that innovation is substantial,

particularly since learners nowadays want a hands-on activity.

On the other hand, Dr. Maribel Ganeb talks about the “Foresights and

Advancements: The Philippine Graduate Education Reforms”. What I enjoyed

in her session was when she said that graduate education reflects a

commitment to improving the quality of education in our country. This is true

because teachers nowadays pursue graduates’ studies to innovate their

learning. Educators now want to have additional knowledge to provide the

needs of this generation of learners. They also value the urgency of utilizing

technology in the educational process. What transpires to me is that they

consider higher studies not only for their gains such as a tool for promotion

but also an opportunity to improve their pedagogical skills. Moreover, what is

inspiring is that some universities strengthen their partnerships internationally to

hone future-ready educators. This move allows schools to collaborate and

share best practices.

The topic I can relate to is when she talks about the good benefits of AI

technology. The invention of this technology helps educators to make their

tasks easier. Like thinking activities that helped unleash the potential of

learners. However, as educators, there is a need that they should be aware

of ethical protocols. Moreover, just like any invention it also has a risk,

particularly that this application can easily be accessed by the students

without policy guidelines. As a result, teachers need to be critical in assessing

the output of the students.

During the presentation presenters such as Dr. Alcantara, Dr. Gayeta,

etc. share their experiences and their research results. One lesson that stays in

my mind is the process of publication. According to Dr. Alcantara, publishing

research is not easy because it undergoes rigorous checking from the

publishing company. Also, as a researcher, you need to be as quick as

possible in revising their comments. His words also inspire me to publish my

future research. It not only gives you points for promotion but allows you to

contribute to resolving issues in the academe.

Overall, the morning session highlighted the importance of technology

in educational research. Since it allows educators to be equipped to provide

the quality of learning that this generation wants to experience. However,

there must be guidelines that will be provided on using those applications to

ensure the quality of learning. Publication of research is necessary so that

your results or findings can be beneficial in resolving issues in the academy.

Nonetheless, the forum challenges us all educators to engage in research

and engage ourselves to a more innovative in our pedagogy to ensure that

we develop life-long learners.

Objectives and Methodology of Parallel Sessions Research

Ms. De Guzman's presentation demonstrates how Social Science

general courses at Batangas State University should be taught. In her

research, she emphasized the importance of a more comprehensive and

precise approach to the educational process. She hypothesizes that some

textbooks do not align with the needs of learners, resulting in a lack of

encouragement to delve deeper into the subject matter.

Looking at her research objective we can notice that it is well-

structured and addresses a crucial issue in education. By using quantitative

data, the study can provide valuable insights into the current state of

contextualization and localization in Social Science teaching, identify key

factors influencing its implementation, and offer practical recommendations

for improvement. The only criticism that I can say is that the study used a lot

of variables just like the demographic profile. However, looking at her

presentation she was able to defend that those variables are necessary to

make the research claims stronger.

In terms of methodology, I admire how she utilized different statistical

tools such as the Chi-Square. This tool is not familiar to me since during my

undergraduate if we want to explore the relationship, the things that we

consider aree providing a null hypothesis and testing it by using correlational.

Additionally, her research methodology appears well-designed to provide a

comprehensive understanding of the use of contextualization and

localization in Social Science instruction at Batangas State University. The use

of quantitative data collection methods, along with appropriate statistical

analysis, will likely yield valuable insights and recommendations for improving

the teaching of Social Science within the General Education curriculum.

Ms. De Guzman's paper underscores the proper manner in which social

science courses at Batangas State University should be taught. Her study

points to an incompatibility of textbooks and the needs of learners so that

proper topics could not be explored more profoundly. The well-articulated

research objective has pointed towards crucial issues being addressed in the

educational sector using a certain quantity of data to discern

contextualization and localization in teaching social sciences with practical

recommendations. Although the survey covered such variables as

demographic profiles, De Guzman explained why such matters are essential

to building stronger claims for research. The use of statistical tools like Chi-

Square heralds a methodological strength that digs deeper into

contextualization and localization. In research, such methodology in applying

quantitative data collection and statistical analysis would contribute much to

improving general instruction in Social Science, hence valuable for refining

curriculum in General Education.
