Development of Shaking Tables
for Seismic Testing
INTRODUCTION
Earthquakes are natural disasters caused by the unexpected release of
energy in the Earth's crust, which leads to ground shaking and vibrations. Earthquakes range in magnitude and intensity, from minor shakes that are just barely felt to massive quakes that cause widespread devastation and loss of life and property. Earthquakes can cause serious damage, especially in places with large populations or limited infrastructure. The damage to buildings, roads, bridges, and other important structures can disrupt communities and economies, emphasizing the significance of understanding and planning for such catastrophes. Earthquakes are unpredictable, but if we study or understand the causes and its effects might help us to be aware and reduce risk.
Understanding how structures respond to earthquakes is crucial for
constructing safer buildings, which is why seismic testing is so important in construction and engineering. A shaking table is the most effective tool for such testing since it simulates ground motion and allows researchers to conduct controlled tests, validate design principles, and improve the resilience of structures. It also allows researchers to examine structural responses. Shaking tables can help improve the design of earthquake-resistant structures, reduce possible dangers, and increase safety.
