ERIC HAMBER SECONDARY SCHOOL BANDS PRESENT Tonight’s program, from Prokofiev’s circus-like march to Hazo’s
invigorating and exotic-sounding Arabesque, invites us to whimsy.
We explore the imagined sleep of American railroad baron
Cornelius Vanderbilt, watch the objects of our own kitchens process
jauntily before us, and revisit an indigenous lullaby in a new context,
among others.
ANCIES
It also represents a major milestone and challenge for our grade
F
9 students, many of whom have had a mere five months of playing
experience in grade 8 and only recently resumed playing their
instruments this semester. Still others only began playing their
instruments a few weeks ago. Although it’s early in their journey, the
distance they have come already is remarkable, in spite of the
obstacles placed before them by the semester system. One hopes
and
that, in time, we will be able to get back to having all VSB bands run
Front year long as they used to rather than our younger players being
- Praries forced to function in fits and starts as they do now. If you feel the
same way, please write to our Trustee, Alfred Chien, and make it
- Train clear that our band students deserve year-round instruction!
DREAMS
- No sense of time
- Whimsy and noodly
