ENZYME Basics

Warming up to Science:
Enzyme basics
Cystic Fibrosis, causes, among other things, a deficiency in
digestive enzymes. These enzymes help fat and protein
molecules to be broken down and stored properly.
Before every meal or snack, she or he has to take “enzymes.”

A. What do you think might happen if this person did not take enzymes?
B. Based upon this information, what do you think an ENZYME does?

Writing Stem (you may use these to help you write your answers)
A. I think if the person did not take these enzymes ________ would happen
because___________.
B. Based upon this information, I think an ENZYME __________________.
Pair-share (use your warm-up)
Question
A. What would happen if she or he did not take these enzymes
B. Based upon this information, what do you think an ENZYME does?

Signal- Thumbs up when done

Stem
A. I think if the person did not take these enzymes ________ would happen
because___________.
B. Based upon this information, I think an ENZYME __________________.

Assessment- I will ask two/three random groups to provide information about their
discussion and record your answers on the board.

Now you will go to this website and complete
the enzymatic game/virtual lab. The
assignment that goes with it is on the front
table, if you didn’t grab it on your way in.
Keep the assignment and turn it in to me on
Friday.
