Course Outline 2023
Course Outline 2023
This course focuses on the discourses surrounding measurement and evaluation in the
educational setting. It seeks to provide a working understanding of the approaches adopted by
teachers in evaluating students, giving feedback and using the results to make decisions that are
meant to support the students in the learning process. The course as well enables one to make
decisions about the teaching process and methodology. It commences with an examination of
what measurement, evaluation, testing and examinations are by reviewing the characteristics and
types of tests, how to construct the tests, their administration and interpretation of results for
decision making. In terms of the types of tests, primary emphasis is given to the tests that are
mainly used in the classroom during the teaching learning process. The course will equip the
student teachers with the skills of testing procedures and the tests that they can practically use as
upcoming teachers. Also, to be covered will be how to construct a table of specifications which
is key in ensuring that is taught is actually covered in the testing.

5. Mode of Delivery
The seminar format will be used in this course. This will be followed by an open discussion
forum with the class members whereby questions asked will be responded to. The class will
identify and contribute towards filling important gaps in the presentation and/or offer their
constructive criticisms. For the seminar format to produce the desired fruits, every learner
must familiarize himself/herself with the course outline in advance of the seminar
presentation covering each topic. This will facilitate learners to ask and answer questions
effectively as well as to make meaningful contributions during class discussions. Indeed, any
student who wants to get a good grade in this course must read and comprehend, rather than
just browse through the assigned readings.
