Industrial training report
Pre-press activities are the steps taken before actual printing begins.
They include designing, typesetting, proofreading, and preparing the
files for the printing press, which often involves converting the files to
the correct format and color correction. It's all about ensuring the final
print will be perfect!
The plates used in offset printing are thin, flexible, and usually larger
than the paper size to be printed. Two main materials are used: Metal
plates, usually aluminum, although sometimes they are made of multi-
metal, paper, or plastic.

PAPPER SETTING
Paper setting in an offset press involves a few steps. First, the paper's
grain direction should align with the press's feed direction. The paper
must be acclimated to the press room's conditions to prevent misfeeds
or jams. The press's paper guides should be adjusted to the paper's
size, and the paper's weight and thickness should be set in the press's
controls. Finally, the paper's position is adjusted to ensure the image is
correctly placed.

These settings allow the operator to fine-tune the printing process for
optimal results. The control panel in an offset press is the central hub
where operators can manage and adjust various aspects of the printing
process. It typically includes controls for:
4. Pressure settings: Adjusting the pressure between the plate and the
blanket cylinder, and between the blanket and impression cylinders.
WORKING PRINCIPLE
11
Industrial training report
The control panel in an offset press works as the command center for
the entire printing process. Here's the basic principle:
1. Ink distribution: The operator can adjust the amount of ink that gets
transferred to the printing plate. This ensures the right color intensity.
3. Paper settings: The operator sets the paper size, thickness, and feed
rates to match the job requirements.
4. Pressure settings: The operator can adjust the pressure between the
cylinders to ensure proper ink transfer.
5. Speed: The operator can control the speed of the press to optimize
print quality and efficiency.
SAFETY PRECAUTION
1. Always wear protective gear like gloves, safety glasses, and ear
protection.
2. Keep the work area clean to prevent slips, trips, and falls.
5. Keep loose clothing, hair, and jewelry away from moving parts.
CUTTING MACHINE

7. Always turn off and unplug the machine when not in use or before
performing maintenance.
USES
2. Shaping: It can cut sheets into specific shapes, like circles or ovals.

3. Use a soft brush or compressed air to gently remove dust and debris
from the filter.
4. If the filter is very dirty, it may need to be washed. Use warm water
and a mild detergent, then let it dry completely before reinstalling.
5. Check the filter for damage. If it's torn or worn out, it should be
replaced.

2. Remove the ink fountain by loosening the screws or clips that hold it
in place.
6. Apply the new ink to the fountain. Make sure it's spread evenly.
FAMILIARISATION OF INK
in offset printing, the ink is a crucial component. Offset inks are oil-
based and they're designed to adhere to the printing plate without
mixing with the water, and then transfer onto the rubber blanket and
finally to the paper. There are four basic colors of offset ink: Cyan,
Magenta, Yellow, and Black (CMYK). These can be mixed to produce a
wide range of colors. The ink must be carefully managed to maintain
the correct balance of ink and water during the printing process.

CONCLUSION
Wrapping up my industrial training, I have gained a deep
understanding of the entire offset printing process. I've
learned the importance of ink selection, the intricate
steps of setting up the press, and the precision required
in maintaining the balance of ink and water.
Quality checking has shown me the importance of
attention to detail in ensuring color consistency,
registration, image and text quality, and the condition of
the paper. I've also learned about various binding
methods and their application based on the project
requirements.
This training has been invaluable, providing me with
hands-on experience and practical knowledge of the
printing industry. I look forward to applying these skills
and insights in my future career. I am grateful for this
opportunity and excited about the possibilities ahead in
the field of offset printing.
