5. In asexual reproduction, offspring are genetically __ to the parent plant.
Word bank: Alexander Fleming, bacteria, clones, overuse, vegetative propagation
B.: Choose the correct answer from the choices for each question.
1. Which of the following is NOT a type of antibiotic?
o A) Amoxicillin o B) Aspirin o C) Penicillin o D) Tetracycline 2. Which process is an example of asexual reproduction in plants? o A) Fertilization o B) Pollination o C) bulbs o D) Photosynthesis 3. Which of the following plants reproduces through tubers? o A) Strawberry o B) Potato o C) Rose o D) Apple 5. The misuse of antibiotics can lead to: o A) Decreased drug prices o B) Increased resistance o C) Faster recovery o D) More allergic reactions
C. : Answer the following questions in complete sentences:
1. Explain how antibiotics work to fight bacterial infections.
2.Describe one advantage and one disadvantage of asexual reproduction in plants.
3. Describe a method to test an antibiotic against a bacterium.
Answer Key: Fill in the Blank: bacteria vegetative propagation Alexander Fleming Overuse clones Multiple Choice Questions: B) Aspirin C) Budding C) Viruses do not have cell walls. B) Potato B) Increased resistance Open Ended Questions: Antibiotics work by targeting specific features of bacterial cells, such as cell walls or protein synthesis, which ultimately leads to the death or inhibition of the bacteria causing the infection. One advantage of asexual reproduction is that it allows plants to reproduce quickly and without the need for a partner. A disadvantage is that it results in less genetic diversity, making plants more susceptible to diseases and environmental changes. Place different antibiotic discs on a bacteria seeded agar plate and incubate at 37 0C for 24 hours. Measure area/ diameter of the inhibition zone around the antibiotic disk. Largest area/diameter indicates the most effective antibiotic.
