SCRABBLE
Game Setup:
Players: 2 to 4 players.
Starting the Game:
Place all tiles in the tile bag and mix them.
Each player draws 7 tiles to start.
The player who draws the letter closest to "A" goes first.
MARBEL SCHOOL OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, INC.
Purok Upper Valley, Bo.2, Korondal City, South Cotabato Tel.No. (083) 2283417
Players must replace their tiles from the bag after each turn to ensure they always
have 7
tiles in their rack until the tile bag is empty.
Basic Gameplay Rules:
Word Placement:
Players take turns forming valid words on the board, either horizontally or vertically.
The first word must be placed on the center square (which is a premium square that
doubles the score of the first word).
Subsequent words must connect to existing words on the board, either by extending
them or by creating new words through overlap.
Tile Values:
Each tile has a point value, as indicated on the tile. Example: A letter "E" is worth 1
point,
and a letter "Z" is worth 10 points.
Special tiles on the board can multiply the value of the tiles placed on them.
Premium Squares:
Double Letter Score (DL): A tile placed on this square scores double its normal point
value.
Triple Letter Score (TL): A tile placed on this square scores triple its normal point
value.
Double Word Score (DW): A word placed on this square scores double its total point
value.
Triple Word Score (TW): A word placed on this square scores triple its total point
value.
If a word spans multiple premium squares, the points are calculated sequentially
(for
example, if a word hits both a Double Word and a Triple Word square).
Turn Sequence:
On each turn, a player must: Place at least one tile on the board to form a valid
word.
Score the word based on the tiles placed. Draw new tiles from the bag to replace
the ones used.
End the turn, passing the play to the next player.
MARBEL SCHOOL OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, INC.
Purok Upper Valley, Bo.2, Korondal City, South Cotabato Tel.No. (083) 2283417
If a player cannot form a valid word on their turn, they may exchange tiles with the
bag
(limit of 7 tiles exchanged per turn) or pass their turn without playing.
Word Rules:
Valid Words:
Words must be at least 2 letters long. They must be listed in an official dictionary
(or a pre-agreed word list). Slang, abbreviations, and proper nouns are typically not
allowed, unless the specific variation of Scrabble allows them.
Words must be formed in a straight line—either horizontally or vertically.
Building Words:
You can form new words by adding letters to existing words or by playing multiple
tiles
across existing words to form new ones.
Challenge:
If a player believes that a word is invalid, they can challenge it.
If the word is found to be invalid, the player who played it must take their tiles back,
and
they lose their turn. If the word is valid, the challenger loses their next turn.
Special Rules:
Tile Exchange:
A player may choose to exchange some or all of their tiles with tiles from the bag
(limit 7 tiles). The player must still end their turn after exchanging tiles, and they
are not allowed to play a word that turn.
Pass Turn:
If a player is unable or unwilling to play a word, they may pass their turn.
Players can pass consecutively, but if a player passes twice in a row, the game
ends.
End of the Game:
The game ends when all tiles have been drawn from the bag and one player uses
their
last tile, or all players pass their turn twice in a row.
Scoring:
Tile Points:
MARBEL SCHOOL OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, INC.
Purok Upper Valley, Bo.2, Korondal City, South Cotabato Tel.No. (083) 2283417
Each letter has a point value (see letter distribution below). When a tile is placed, its
point
value is added to the player's score.
Premium Squares:
If a tile is placed on a premium square, the points are multiplied accordingly
(Double Letter, Triple Letter, etc.).
Bingo Bonus:
If a player uses all 7 of their tiles in a single turn, they receive a "Bingo" bonus of 50
points.
Final Scoring:
When the game ends, each player subtracts the total value of any remaining tiles
they
hold. The player with the highest score wins.
