DISCIPLINE • GOOD TASTE • EXCELLENCE
In this module, you are going to learn the importance of research in daily life.
It is very important that you know the importance of research in your life so that you
will have a holistic view about the subject. It is also imperative that you develop a
love for research as this will help you do your works successfully.

What’s New
Let us start our lesson by answering the questions below. On the space before
each item, put a check (_/) mark if the statement is true and an ex (X) mark if it is
not.
_____ 1. Research is easy to do.
_____ 2. Research is important to life.
_____ 3. Research is about contributing to a growing pool of knowledge and
information.
_____ 4. Research broadens one’s knowledge and horizons.
_____ 5. Research makes the brain wary and disturbed.

What is It

Dear learner, I am glad that you are doing great in your studies. It is very
heartwarming to know that you are showing eagerness in your studies even with a
minimum guidance. With the kind of behavior you are showing, I will be more
enthusiastic to guide you in your journey and help you attain your purpose.
Do not forget, dear learner, that researches happen every day in different in
different areas of man’s lives. Research has become a part and parcel of man’s
existence. It has become a vital part of our existence.
As Prieto et al opine, research affects society and the lives of each one of us
daily. The way we perceive the world, the way we experience relationships with
others, the way society is organized and governed, and a lot more are influenced by
the ever-expanding frontiers of knowledge and that for us to make sense of the world
and our own lives, we need research.

3
DISCIPLINE • GOOD TASTE • EXCELLENCE
We are a curious being. We ask questions a lot.
We ask questions on different observed phenomena. We ask why these things
happen.
Finding answers to our questions entails a process.
We gain new knowledge and experiences as we go on with our study.
Experts say that research typically evokes visions of incomprehensible
mathematical formulae that describe natural phenomena, complex theorems on the
structure of human reason, liquids in test tubes combining and separating,
experiments to explain psychological mechanisms and behaviors. But these
discoveries and abstruse technical procedures, according to the site mentioned
earlier, have positive effects and consequences for many aspects of our lives that are
far more numerous and important than we might imagine.

http://clipart-library.com/research-education-cliparts.html

Man, dear learner, constantly seeks knowledge. We continuously satisfy our

sense of wonder, develop more abilities, connect with others, and understand
society. These are essential to research. Do not that as the world continues to evolve,
doing research becomes more important as a skill with enduring rewards.
But how important research in daily life is?
Importance of Research in Daily Life
Research is very important in daily life. According to www.quora.com,
research is important because of the following reasons:
1. Research develops an attitude to not believe everything easily available and
go on one track.
2. Research empowers us with knowledge and efficient learning of new things.

4
DISCIPLINE • GOOD TASTE • EXCELLENCE
3. Research evolves us to mark out the thin line between truth and lie.
4. Research gives us a light to inquire about the right information.
5. Research helps us in understanding various issues of life in a larger
manner.
6. Research leads us to the ultimate philosophy of all the subjects and builds
a graphic vision of life.
7. Research makes good habits of reading, analyzing, thinking and learning.
8. Research opens new vistas of opportunity before us to pick and choose.
9. Research sharpens the brain and gives it a judicious vision to look.
Given the importance of research above, you can see that it is a vital part of
our lives.
Discussing on the importance of research, owlcation.com says that the main
purpose of research is to inform action, to prove a theory, and contribute to developing
knowledge in a field or study. Furthermore, it says gives the following importance of
research which you should always remember as you go on with the topics in the
subject:
1. A Tool for Building Knowledge and for Facilitating Learning
"Knowledge" basically pertains to facts based on objective insights and/or
study findings processed by the human brain. It can be acquired through various
ways, such as reading books and online articles, listening to experts, watching
documentaries or investigative shows, conducting scientific experiments, and
interacting with other people, among others. These facts can be checked to ensure
truthfulness and accuracy.
Research can be easily done by students like you and all professionals and
non-professionals who value learning.
Doing research equips you with knowledge about the world and skills to
survive and improve your life.
Determining what the general public may want to know, dear learner, or what
you want others to realize or to think about can serve as a reason to do research.
Thus, research is an essential component in generating knowledge and vice-versa.
2. Means to Understand Various Issues and Increase Public Awareness
Always remember that research can shed light on issues we do not even know
existed. It can raise questions we had not realized even needed asking.
Research is a way to know better some issues in society and helps increase
public awareness. Like for example in social media- television, radio, YouTube,
Facebook, and more, there are a lot of issues broadcasted every day and before these
issues are imparted to the public, researches are done to ensure its validity.

5
DISCIPLINE • GOOD TASTE • EXCELLENCE
In a television documentary program like “Kuha Mo” of ABS-CBN, researchers
are involved and are busy looking and verifying information making sure that the
issues and problems they air are factual.

http://clipart-library.com/clipart/689703.htm

We are not saying that program hosts rely mainly on their researchers. Other
hosts are also exerting efforts to do their own research and this helps them:

• get information that hired researchers missed,

• build a good rapport with the interviewee, and
• conduct a good interview in the process

3. An Aid to Business Success

The success of most business relies of research. It is a fact that research
benefits business and that many successful companies, such as those producing
consumer goods or mass-market items, invest in research and development or R&D.
Different business industries with science and engineering processes like agriculture,
food and beverage, manufacturing, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, computer
software, semiconductor, information and communication technology, construction,
robotics, aerospace, aviation, and energy have high research and development
expenditure because it is critical to product innovation and to improving services.
4. A Way to Prove Lies and to Support Truths
Scientists deal with research to test the validity and reliability of their claims
or those of other scientists. Their integrity and competence depend on the quality -
and not just quantity - of their research. Nonetheless, not everything scientists come
up with get accepted or learned by everyone, especially when factors like religion,
state suppression, and access to resources and social services (e.g., education and
adequate health programs) either feed the poor majority with lies or deter them from
knowing truths to preserve the status quo.
Professional and credible journalists undertake thorough research to
establish the veracity of their stories.

6
DISCIPLINE • GOOD TASTE • EXCELLENCE
With the use of internet technology and social media, pseudo journalism has
become a social concern. Fake news becomes rampant. Fact-checking to know the
truth is integral to the process of research, for it is fueled by an inquisitive and
critical mind.
5. Means to Find, Gauge, and Seize Opportunities
Research helps people nurture their potential and achieve goals through
various opportunities. These can be in the form of securing employment,
scholarships, training grants, project funding, business collaboration, and budget
traveling, among others.
These can be in the form of securing employment, scholarships, training
grants, project funding, business collaboration, and budget traveling, among others.
6. A Seed to Love Reading, Writing, Analyzing, and Sharing Valuable
Information
Research entails both reading and writing. These two literacy functions help
enable computation and comprehension. Without these skills, it is less likely for you
to appreciate and get involved in research. Reading opens the mind to a vast horizon
of knowledge, while writing helps you use your own perspective and transform this
into a more concrete idea that you understand.
Apart from reading and writing, listening and speaking are also integral in
conducting research. Interviews, attending knowledge-generating events, and casual
talks with anyone certainly aid in formulating research topics. They can also
facilitate the critical thinking process. Listening to experts discuss the merits of their
studies helps you to analyze a certain issue and write about such analysis.
7. Nourishment and Exercise for the Mind
Our curiosity fuels our mind to seek for answers. Research helps in developing
critical reasoning skills. There are several studies, dear learner, that show the
research stimulates the mind and contribute to brain health.

You see now how important research is? What about the importance of
research for you as a student?

http://clipart-library.com/clipart/1210998.htm

7
DISCIPLINE • GOOD TASTE • EXCELLENCE
Research can be done on any topic. In order to do research, first of all, you
need to have a topic or the problem on which you can do research. The topic must
have relevant questions to answer.
According to content.wisestep.com, to research is to carefully analyze the
problems or to do the detailed study of the specific problems, by making use of
special scientific methods.
Always put in mind that the main purpose of the research is to get deep into
the topic so that something helpful can churn out, which can be helpful for everybody
and used in that particular field.
The main aim of research is to provide the best of the solution to some of the
world problems and also to enhance our knowledge.
Doing a research is rewarding, dear learner. It may be challenging, but it is
an opportunity that helps you to pursue an in-depth or deep original study about
any topic which interests you.
Why conduct research as a student?
Conducting research is not only important but beneficial for students like you
as it helps you to have a detailed analysis of something you are trying to study.
Through research, your knowledge is enhanced and you and other people will benefit
from the outcomes.
Bear in mind that when you conduct research, you:
✓ clarify confusion
✓ enhance your knowledge
✓ have a better understanding
✓ know your area of interest
✓ learn about issues and the methods in addressing these
✓ learn to collaborate
✓ understand published works
