Term-Project-First-Semester-2022-2023
The goal of this project is to allow students to acquire a professional life experience. This real-life
project will allow students to practice professional responsibilities by reading drawings and other
contract documents. Acting as contractors, students will prepare a detailed schedule of the project
activities using Primavera software only. Project items include the following points:
Students should work in teams four students each team, to learn how to communicate effectively. Each
team must submit a detailed report showing all their work. The report should include the following
points:
1. Introduction (Why we use project planning 2- brief description of the software that you have
used) (5 %)
2. Assumptions (State the reasons for your assumptions). (3%)
3. Table that includes your quantities, and sample calculation of each item (excluding
excavation and backfilling works). (10%)
4. BOQ with the estimated quantities for the project items above excluding excavation and
backfilling work. (15 %)
5. Work breakdown structure (WBS) of the project using master format. (10%)
6. Using Primavera software Project Planning and Scheduling: i) a complete bar chart
showing activities names, durations, early start, early finish, late start, late finish,
predecessors, total float, and free float. Show the project’s critical path in a different pattern.
ii) An AON network showing activities names, durations, early start, early finish, late start,
late finish and total float. (25 %)
7. Price estimation for all the items above excluding excavation and backfilling works
assuming that the project overhead is 10% of the direct cost , general overhead is 6% of the
direct cost, and the profit is 15% of the total cost.(Note: You should use primavera
software to calculate the Total cost of the items. Also, you should print S-curve for the
Total cost of the calculated items using primavera (extra points) or excel, and you
should fill the prices for these items in the BOQ. (25 %)
8. Conclusions. (4%)
9. References (using Harvard style). (3%)
10. Appendices (secondary information if you want to support the main contents).
11. Soft copy of your software planning.
1. Calculate the quanttities that will help you to do the plan of the project and and estimate
the direct cost.
2. Break down the project into activities (perform a WBS). Prepare a list of all possible
activities.
2. Identify the logical relationships among project’s activities. Remember to answer the
following questions for each activity in the list:
a. What activity(ies) must be finished before the current one can start?
b. What activity(ies) must be constructed concurrently with the current one?
c. What activity(ies) must follow the current one?
3. Remove redundancy and prepare a schedule that includes all projects’ activities.
4. You have to assign the resources, i.e. material and crews to the plan.
5. Assume duration for each activity in the project based on the quantity that you have
calculated and the productivity (See Table 1 below that shows the productivity of
some items (you can use more than one crew), and you should find the productivity
of the remaining items). Bearing in mind that the total project duration is assumed to be
300 Calendar days, Friday and Saturday are holiday, and the project will start on
04/06/2023. For the excavation and backfilling assume that it will take 18 days.
