Definition

Flipped Learning is a pedagogical approach in which

direct instruction moves from the group learning space to
the individual learning space, and the resulting group
space is transformed into a dynamic, interactive learning
environment where the educator guides students as they
apply concepts and engage creatively in the subject
matter

Research in Flipped Learning in
Language Teaching

Turan & Akdag-Cimen had a systematic review on this

matter in 2019. most of the studies (85%) were
conducted with university students as participants. the
studies took place in many different countries. Overall,
flipped learning was found to be an effective method for
language learning, but no effect size was provided
because the study was a systematic review, not a meta-
analysis.
The articles also reported that extra workload and
technical issues can be an important challenge.
However, the main finding was that the number of
studies on flipped learning is growing rapidly.

Conclusion

Flipped learning is still a recent topic in EFL, but

the initial results are exciting, and more research is
being done. Based on what is already known, and
the speed at which research is compiling, it seems
likely that flipped learning will soon move from a
recent topic to a current best practice in foreign
language teaching.
