MODULE IN TECHNOLOGY FOR TEACHING AND


LEARNING IN THE ELEMENTARY

Introduction to the Learner

Advances in technology have had profound effect in the way students learn and
the way the teacher teach. As soon to be teachers of the millennial learners you need to
be acquainted and master the different technological tools in the teaching learning
process. As of today some are still using traditional teaching technology that is now
considered obsolete and boring. In order to be effective and efficient teacher you need
to go in pace with your learners in using technological tools in the teaching learning
process to make learning meaningful and enjoyable.

I. Course Description: This course is designed for prospective teachers to develop and use
digital and non-digital teaching-learning resources using technology tools appropriate in various
subject areas in the elementary level. Further, the course will provide opportunities for students
to use technology tools to develop project-based collaborative activities and share resources
among communities of practice.

Time Frame: 3 hours/week

Pre-requisite: None

Program Objectives (CMO 74, Series of 2017

In consonance with the mission statement of the Teacher Education Department,


its Bachelor in Secondary Education (BSED) and Bachelor in Elementary Education
(BEED) programs are designed to:

1. Provide quality instruction to produce teachers with sufficient knowledge and


skills necessary for immediate and gainful employment and to make them
competent professionals;
2. Expose students to varied learning activities and experiences that will enhance
their critical thinking so that they will be able to do their work well;
3. Involve students in research, extension, and production activities that will make
them knowledgeable, useful and productive citizens;
4. Instill in students values to make them better persons.

Definition and Tools of Technology in Teaching Learning Process

Introduction
Millennial learners are more attracted with instructional gadgets because it
catches their interest and motivate them to learn. With this premise as future teachers
you need to learn about the technology and the different technological tools use in the
teaching-learning process.
Read the discussion and answer the questions below. Perform the activity and
submit the written answer using your activity paper.

Learning Objectives: This module ypu will be able to:


1. Understand the meaning of the term “technology” and “ Educational
Technology”.
2. Trace the evolution of learning using different technological tools on its time of
existence.
3. Differentiate the meaning of “Teaching Technology with “Educational
Technology”.
4. Understand the objective and characteristic of Teaching Technology.
5. Understand the advantages of using Teaching Technology in teaching
learning process.

Learning outcomes: upon completion of this module/lesson you must have:


1. Defined the term “technology” and “ Educational Technology”.
2. Illustrated using a diagram the evolution of learning using different
technological tools on its time of existence.
3. Explained the meaning of “Teaching Technology compared with “Educational
Technology”.
4. Discussed the objective and characteristic of Teaching Technology.
5. Explained the advantages of using Teaching Technology in teaching learning
process.

Discussion

Technology is the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of
technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing
upon such subject as industrial arts , engineering, applied science, and pure science.

Educational Technology is the effective use of technology tools of learning as a
concept it concerns an array of tools such us media, machines and networking
hardware as well as considering underlying theoretical perspective for their effective

Teaching Technology versus Educational Technology


Summary
Class we have define the terms involve in teaching technology and understand
the difference between two conflicting terms teaching technology versus educational
technology. We also presented and discuss the evolution of learning starting from the
traditional to the latest one. We further discussed the objectives, characteristic and
advantages of using technology in teaching learning process.

Assessment
Using a yellow pad paper answer the following questions:
1. In essay form explain in five sentences at your own level of understanding
the term “technology” and “ Educational Technology”. 20 points
2. Give at least two important features of every technology shown in the diagram
of the Evolution of Learning.2 points each.
3. In essay form differentiate the meaning of “Teaching Technology with
“Educational Technology”.20 points
4. In essay form explain in five sentences each objective of Teaching
Technology. 5 points each.
5. In essay form explain in five sentences each characteristic of Teaching
Technology. 5 points each.
6. Enumerate and explain the advantages of using Teaching Technology in
teaching learning process. 5 points each
