“NARRATIVE REPORT IN GULAYAN SA PAARALAN PROGRAM”

Vegetable gardening is a very rewarding activity. In reality this is


undertaken in school to support school program needs and use vacant
site and available resources purposively.
In 2007, DepEd released Memorandum #293 “Gulayan sa Paaralan”
encouraging increase public awareness in health and nutrition especially
among pupils, teachers and parents. San Casimiro Elementary School
sustained and nourished this program evidently.

San Casimiro Elementary school started to plant vegestables during


brigada eskwela.This project was initiated by our schoolhead Ms.Marie Fe
G. Manuzon with the sincere cooperation of all staff and teachers from
kindergarten to grade six level.
As of this moment, We planted vegetables in our school’s vegetable
garden areas like
Okra,Eggplant,Mallungay,Stringbeans,Ampalaya,Patola,Tomato and
Pepper.
However, the weather affects our vegetables drastically. The
continuous fall of the heavy rains due to typhoons and low pressure area
causes flooding in our school affects the growth of our plants. But there
were plants that we’ve already harvested like okra and eggplants.
Patience, hardwork and continuous labor in vegetables gardening in
our school is evident despite of those challenges in the implementation of
the program. “God almighty first planted a garden. And indeed, it is the
purest of human pleasures.”-Francis Bacon.

The implementers as of this time arrived on the following outcome.


 It builds an understanding of a respect for nature and environment.
 It motivates pupils and community to eat vegetables,
 It provides opportunities for hands-on learning, inquiry, observation
and experimentation.
 It promote physical activity and quality outdoor experiences,
 It taught pupils,teachers and community to nurture and care for
other living things while developing patience,

 It promotes appreciation for the learners/community and


stakeholders the importance of agriculture in their life as a source
of food and income.
 It inculcates among pupils,teachers and community members the
value of work.
 It provides alternative source of food for the school’s feeding
program and provide the community some fresh produce specially
now in times of pandemic.
