Fir branches

by Svetlana Rogatykh
Christmas CAL - Crochet A Long
CAL is hosted by Mosaic Crochet MALs, CALs & more group on Facebook

Technique: single-row mosaic crochet.

The size of the motifs are 24 stitches by 12 rows.
The pattern contains a graph and right-handed instructions.

I did my best to make sure this pattern is accurate and easy to understand. However, if you find any
errors or typographical mistakes, or if you have questions regarding this pattern, please let me know.

Abbreviations:

● st – stitch (sts – stitches) ● A-color – dark blue (background color)

● RS – right side ● B-color – green
● ch – chain
● sc – single crochet
● DC – make a double crochet in the front loop of the stitch 2 rows below the current stitch. So as an
example, when you work in row 4, you make a dc in the loop of row 2. Keep in mind that when you
work a DC, you will skip the st on the current row that lies behind your dc.
● start – the first st of row. Make a slip knot and place on hook, sc under both loops at the beginning of
the row.
● end – the last st of row. Make sc under both loops, ch 1, cut yarn and pull through tightly.
You can also do ‘knit’ (Waistcoat) stitch as Start and End stitches. This stitch is worked by working
through the legs of the sc.

● Repeats are indicated by ( ) or [ ]

● For charts: – sc – repeats

– DC

Notes:
These patterns work evenly over a multiple of 24 + 1 (for symmetry) + 2 (start and end sts). To match
the number of stitches in the Christmas CAL, your work must be a multiple of 48+3.
RS facing you at all times. DO NOT TURN your work before you start a new row and don’t turn at the
end of rows. Cut the yarn after every row.
By working into only the back loops, we leave the front loops open to work into 2 rounds later.
All sc’s except the start and end are made in the back loop of each stitch.
All dc’s are made in the front loop 2 rows below the one you normally would make the stitch in. When
you work a dc, you only use the front loop of the stitch below and you will skip the st on the current row
that lies behind your dc.
