D. GRADE 10 ADMISSION PRACTICAL PORTFOLIO TASKS FOR 2025
Dear Applicant

Thank you for your interest in the subjects offered by the Peter Clarke Art Centre.

We offer FET Visual Art and FET Design as a 7th or 8th subject at our wonderful art centre.

We are a specialist school and therefore offer three Visual Art and three Design subjects. You can only
choose one subject in the end.

To have the best chance of judging you on merit, we need to see an appropriate portfolio of your
own work in the format of THREE completed prescribed practical tasks.

We must emphasise that the portfolio should consist of your own original art works and that nobody should
help you with the interpretation or execution of the required projects. We want to test you on your own ability to
interpret instructions and independent problem solving.

PORTFOLIO PRACTICAL TASKS

● Portfolio requirements for all the subjects are the same. All applicants are required to complete all the tasks
for the chosen subject(s).
● The tasks integrate the necessary skills and abilities for all subjects in Visual Art and Design. Each task will
reveal your skills in all the various aspects as they pertain to the different fields and entry level standards.
● The individual tasks are explained on the pages to follow. For a strong application, ensure that you comply
strictly with the requirements of the tasks.
● Please do not submit any drawings that were copied or traced from photographs.
● The portfolio tasks will be assessed by the relevant teacher(s) in the fields of study. Assessors will make the
best decision regarding your final subject placement based on your completed tasks.
● Placement: Your 1 choice, below, will be taken into consideration first, however, should your chosen class be
st

full, PCAC will revert to your 2 or 3 choices.

Ethics for Learners and Parents/ Guardians
The following should govern the basis of all relationships at the Peter Clarke Art Centre:

◦ Art
as
a
school subject takes precedence over extra mural activities such as sport, cultural activities and detention on the
specific timetabled days.

◦ PCAC lessons continue during school examinations and learners are expected to be present for all classes during
this period.

◦An absentee note is required should a learner be absent from a lesson. Telephonic apologies must be followed up by
a written note from parents. Notification before an absence is appreciated.

◦ All learners must arrive promptly for their lessons and must remain for the whole duration of the class. Class times
are strictly from 15h15 – 17h15 pm.

◦ Learners are required to provide some of their own materials, either by purchasing a kit through the PCAC or as
recommended by their subject teachers. Learners are to respect and care for the materials they use.

◦ Appropriate clothing must be worn: we do not accept responsibility for damage to clothing and recommend that
learners bring their own apron/ shirt to class. Teachers have the right to ask learners to change into more appropriate
clothing.

◦ Learners may be requested to loan their artworks to the PCAC for exhibition purposes, either at the PCAC or in
public venues.

◦ Learners MAY NOT smoke, drink alcohol or bring drugs onto the PCAC Campus. The principal will be notified
immediately if this should happen. The learner’s parents will be called and the learner possibly suspended from the
PCAC for a period of time.

◦ All property belonging to the PCAC and others must be respected at all times. Theft will not be tolerated in the Art
Centre and culprits will be severely dealt with by the authorities.

◦ Cell Phones must be switched off for the duration of the lesson, unless approved by the teacher. R50 fine if your
phone goes off in class.

◦ Graffiti is unacceptable anywhere in the Art Centre or grounds, unless supervised by a teacher.

◦ Learner’s friends and relatives may not drive and park in the school grounds. Friends are NOT allowed in the school
grounds during class time and on examination days.

◦ Learners are not allowed unsupervised in the staff room, staff toilets, kitchen or attic.

◦ We expect older learners to be caring towards the young children who come to the PCAC. We will not tolerate any
form of abuse, for example, foul language, shouting, physical or sexual abuse or intimidation.
