1 Explain the classification of vehicles for solid waste collection (3)


2 Which are the factors affecting the generation rate of solid wastes (3)
3 A residential waste has the following components Paper = 50% Glass = 20% (3)
Food = 20% Yard waste = 10%. The Paper, Glass, Food and Yard Wastes have
moisture content 6%, 2%, 20%, and 60% respectively. Estimate the moisture
content of the waste.
4 Mention the unit operations employed in processing of solid waste (3)
5 What is leachate? Discuss its effects on ground water? (3)
6 Explain the biological treatment steps occur in landfill processes (3)
7 What are the factors affecting aerobic composting? (3)
8 Provide equation for degradation of C6H12O6 by means of aerobic as well as (3)
anaerobic digestion
9 What are the characteristics of ISWM? (3)
10 Differentiate fast pyrolysis from slow pyrolysis (3)

14 a) An area consisting of 400 houses contributes solid waste. Estimate the solid (10)
waste generation rate, if the observation is a local transfer station and period of
generation is one week. The waste is carried out in two types of vehicles,
compactor truck and flat bed trucks.
