Modes of E-Way Bill generation

Multiple modes are provided for the generation of the e-Way Bill. The Tax payers or Transporters
can use the mode of generation of e-Way Bill as per his/her comfort. The following modes are
available

 Web Based System – This is a default and easy mode of generation of E-Way Bill. Here, user
will hit the common portal and login and generate the e-Way Bill.
 Android App Based System – The Android App is developed to facilitate the tax payers and
transporters to work on the E-Way Bill system using his/her mobile hand set. Here, user has
to download the app from the common portal and install on the mobile hand set and use it
as per the instructions. Before installing on the mobile, the user needs to register the IMEI
number of his or his authorised person’s hand set number on the common portal by logging
in.
 SMS based System – This is SMS based mode of generation of e-Way Bill. Here with the
defined KEWWORD and other parameters, the request is sent as SMS to the EWB identified
mobile number and generate the e-Way Bill. Here, the user needs to register the mobile
number of the authorised person, who can generate the SMS based E-Way Bill for his GSTIN,
on the common portal. Please refer to the user manual on the common portal for the
details.
 Bulk Generation mode – This is simple method for generation of multiple e-Way Bills in one
go. Here, the tax payer has to prepare the JSON file request for the e-way bill and upload
into the common portal. The Excel to JSON file converter has been provided on the portal.
Please refer to the User Manual for the same on the common portal.
 API based – Site-to-Site Integration – This method can be used by the big tax payers by
loosely linking their systems with the E-Way Bill system for generation of e-way bill. Here,
when the invoice is being prepared by the tax payer on his system, he will call the API
interface given by the EWB system and EWB system will generate EWB No and pass back to
him. He can print the same on the Invoice and move the goods. It avoids duplicate data
entry on the EWB system by the operator of the tax payers.
 Suvidha Provider mode – The tax payer can authorise his/her Suvidha Provider to generate
the e-Way Bill on his behalf through the API mode.
