Note: Items marked with a red asterisk (*) may be used on multiple items.

Sensori-motor level:
Rattle*

Several mechanical toys with a variety of ways to activate (e.g., music box *, toy car that you wind up,

A group of toy cars, trucks, airplanes, other vehicles (should not be too small and should be sturdily
made)

 Use soft squeak toy from item #3
 Can use music box from item #10 if purchased

Group of toys such as cars, airplanes, trucks, animals, etc. for matching, sorting, beginning
classification tasks *
 Can use toy animals and toy boat from sensori-motor level, but need other items as well
Several 2-piece puzzles– non-interlocking, preferably cut and horizontal cut. Laminated pictures may
be cut in two. Pictures must contain only one object. This is for part/whole relationships.
Several sets of seriation materials– no more than 4 items (e.g., cuisenaire-type rods, cardboard strips,
etc.)
Several broken toys, easily repaired, i.e., doll or teddy with arms/legs that snap on, car with snap on
wheels, etc.
Set attribute blocks (shape, size, color, thickness)
Container for floating and sinking objects (intuitive reasoning)
Items for floating and sinking, i.e., ball of clay* about 1/2” in diameter: small toy boat*, marble*, 1”
wooden bead*, ping-pong ball*, nail, wooden peg, needle, plus any other items you wish to add
Several containers for classifications (2 same-size beakers and graduated cylinder that can hold beaker
contents)
Reinforcers (food, stickers, small prizes)
Kitchen baster to be used for conservation of continuous quantity*
 Can be used at sensori-motor level for deferred imitation

Concrete operations:
Several squares of onionskin or parchment paper (type of thin paper that you can see under but not
through), one of which has been folded in half and has a diamond shaped cutout.
Set of 8 or more cards with simple geometric designs or pictures that can be easily labeled
Clay for observations task*
 Can use clay from pre-operational level item #16
Geomatics shapes– 2 shapes, 2 colors

Formal operations:
A drawing or enlarged duplication of the block structure shown in Task 90. Structure must be 2 blocks
wide, 4 blocks long, and 2 blocks high.
 Print from manual appendix (begins p. 99)
Twenty small toys: 2 cars, trucks, airplanes, boats, pieces of doll furniture *, miniature trees,
vegetables, and birds. One dog and one cat. These should all be approximately the same size. ( * may
already have some of these items from previous level materials).
