Chemistry Assignment-1 Class XI (2022-23)
Some basic concepts of Chemistry 1. a) When do zeros present in a number become insignificant? b) Which is more precise measurement of the length of a thread (i) 10.0cm (ii) 10.00cm? 2. Define the terms (i) Gram atom (ii) Gram molecule. How are they related to the mole and Avogadro number? 3. The mass of copper oxide obtained by heating 2.16g of metallic copper with nitric acid and subsequent ignition was found to be 2.7g. In another experiment, 1.15g of copper oxide on reduction yielded 0.92g of copper. Show that the data illustrates the law of constant composition. 4. a) What is the difference between molarity and Molality? b) What is the difference in the molar volume of a gas if ST.P. conditions are: i) 1 atm, 0oC ii) 1 bar, 0oC 5. A major textile dye manufacturer developed a new yellow dye. The dye has a percent composition of 75.95% C, 17.72% N, and 6.33% H by mass with a molar mass of about 240 g/mol. Determine the molecular formula of the dye. 5. Copper gives two oxides. On heating 1g of each in hydrogen, we get 0.888g and 0.798g of the metal respectively. Show that these results are in agreement with the law of Multiple Proportions. 6. 1.82 g. of glucose is dissolved in 25g of water. Calculate (a) the molality (b) mole fraction of glucose and water.
