Trigonometry

I A vertical flagstaff is on the top of a building which stands on level ground. From a point A on
ground lerrel the angle of elevation of the top of the flagstaff is obsened to be 3Oo, and the angle
of elevation of the bottom of the flagstaff to be 28o . From a point B on ground lerrel,50 metres
closer.to the building,the angle of elevation of the top of the flagstaff is 36o. Calculate, to three
significant figures,

(i) the distance of A from the base of the building,

(ii) the height of the building,

(iii) the length of the flagstaff ( 19 marks )

10 A hotel owner is planning an extension containing not more than 15 bedrooms. At least three must
be single rooms and there must be more than 2 double rooms to each single room.

(i) Draw graphs on the same grid to show these conditions.

(ii) lf he charges $24 per night for a double roomand$l6pernightforasingle room,which


arrangement gives the owner maximum income?

(iii) Find also the maximum number of empty rooms the owner can have in the extension so
