Question One
 (a) Solve for x in the quadratic equation x^2 - 5x + 6 = 0. (04 Marks)
 (b) Define and provide examples of vector and scalar quantities. (04 Marks)
 (c) Given the vectors A = 2i + 3j + k and B = i - 2j + 4k, compute: (i) A . B (ii) A x B. (12
Marks)

Question Two
 (a) Simplify the logarithmic expression log2(32) + log2(4) - log2(8). (06 Marks)
 (b) Using the laws of indices, simplify (3x^(3/2) * x^(-1/2)) / x^(-2). (06 Marks)
 (c) Solve log3(x + 4) = 2. (08 Marks)

Question Three
 (a) Explain the principle of superposition in solving systems of linear equations. (05
Marks)
 (b) Solve the system of equations using matrices: 2x + y - z = 3, x - 3y + 2z = -4, 3x + 2y +
z = 10. (15 Marks)

Question Four
 (a) A triangle has sides a = 7, b = 8, and c = 9. Use the cosine rule to determine the angle
opposite side c. (10 Marks)
 (b) Solve for x in 2sin^2(x) + cos(x) - 1 = 0, for 0 <= x <= 360 degrees. (10 Marks)
Question Five
 (a) Define and illustrate the application of determinants in solving systems of equations.

 (b) Compute the determinant of the following matrix: [[2, 1, 3], [1, 0, 2], [4, -1, 1]]. (05

 (c) Use Cramer's rule to solve the system of equations: 3x + y - z = 7, 2x - 2y + 4z = 10, -x
