1. The Dead Sea is a salt lake between Israel and Jordan in the Middle East. It is famous for being incredibly
salty. The sea has a depressing name. High salt makes it very hard for anything to survive. The only things
alive in the Dead Sea are bacteria. The Dead Sea is ten-times saltier than regular sea water and thatʹs why
people donʹt sink when they swim in this sea. The sea is rich in 21 natural minerals. The minerals of the sea
are thought to have healing properties. These minerals may help relieve allergic reactions of the skin.
2. The ancient Egyptians used the Dead Sea products to preserve their mummies. The reasons for using them
in mummification process are due to its dual role; first, to prevent insects, bacteria and moisture from entering
the body; and, second, due to its high sulphur content which prevented the body from decaying (çürümək).
3. The Dead Sea water levels have been dropping since 1960. The environmental researchers say that it's a
human-made problem. The Dead Sea is fed mainly by the Jordan River, which enters the lake from the north.
Israel and Jordan overuse freshwater sources of this river for drinking and irrigation, leaving very little for the
Dead Sea.
