Since Brazil, which draws attention with its military coups and revolutions
from South American countries, is known for its Rio Carnival, I wanted to
research this country because I thought that a country where people's welfare is
high. Frankly, in my research, I found that although it is considered among the
rising powers, one of the biggest problems is still hunger and poverty, which
surprised me the most. At the same time, when I examine the human
development index, the fact that it is 87th among 191 countries is quite revealing
about the level of development and the living standards of individuals.
The new republic established after the military coup was a period that
shaped the current political situation in Brazil. It was decided that it would focus
on issues such as education and women's rights, which are not seen as a very
important problem in strict administrations. But Brazil had a bigger problem,
especially in the 90s, when the unequal distribution of wealth and income led to
an increase in poverty. In places where hunger and poverty were most common,
slums began to form and crime rates increased. The high crime rate is one of the
important factors that make the country not a democratic and developed country.
I think that's exactly why one of the main development goals of the country is to
reduce the crime rate.
Since Brazil is a very rich country in terms of resources, it does not seem
very difficult for it to achieve its own development goals, but it has hardly
recovered itself because it has been under exploitation for a long time. At the
moment, I think that it has difficulty in achieving its main development goals
because it is dependent on foreign sources, but it is trying to close this gap with
its collaborations and greater presence in the international arena. Long story
short, achieving the development goals will make Brazil less dependent on
foreign sources and more prosperous.
