3. A sales lady earns a basic salary of Ksh 12 400 per month. In addition, she gets a 2%
commission on the first Ksh 80 000 worth of good and a further 3% commission on goods
worth over Ksh 80 000. In a certain month, she earned a total of Ksh 20 000. Calculate the
value of the goods sold that month. (3 marks)

15% respectively while the cost of health care reduced by 5%.
a) Determine the 2009 monthly cost of food (2 marks)

b) Determine the cost of maintaining the home monthly in 2010. (3 marks)

c) In 2011 the cost of maintaining the home was Ksh 164 450 per month. In that year the
cost of food and staff wages rose by 20% and 5 % more than those in 2010. Calculate;

21. A trader bought 8 cows and 12 goats for a total of Ksh 294,000. If he had bought 1 more

c) The trader sold the animals he had bought making a profit of 40% per cow and 45% per
