Name:_____________________________ Course and Year: _________
Date:______Rating:_____ Introduction and Rationale: Meal planning is a critical aspect of ensuring the well-being of the family. It provides numerous benefits that address the household's health, lifestyle needs as well as financial resources. Since all planned cooking activities for the term were canceled, this approach offers a meaningful and practical alternative. Preparing meals for the holidays allows students to showcase their skills while contributing to a significant family celebration. It provides an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to a real-world setting and create cherished memories with loved ones. Intended Learning Outcomes: At the end of the activity, you should be able to: 1. Plan a nourishing meal for the family on Christmas holidays 2. Prepare and document a complete meal to serve your family during Christmas or New Year’s Eve, emphasizing nutritional quality, variety, balance, and aesthetics while maintaining cost efficiency. Materials and Methods: Cooking Materials and Equipment Ingredients for meal preparation Procedure: 1. Each student will work independently in planning, preparing, and documenting the meal. 2. The meal should consist of at least three dishes (e.g., appetizer, main course, dessert, etc. Focus on dishes typically served during Christmas or New Year’s Eve. 3. Present the meals prepared for evaluation using the following criteria:
A. Nutritional Quality (50%)
- Ensure the meal includes a balanced distribution of macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, fats) and incorporates a variety of fruits, vegetables, and other nutrient-dense ingredients. B. Variety and Balance (30%) Strive for diversity in ingredients, textures, and flavors in the dishes. Avoid repeating similar ingredients in all dishes. C. Aesthetics and Plating (20%) Pay attention to the presentation of each dish. Use creative plating techniques and ensure the meal is visually appealing. NB. Flavor Exemption Although flavor is an essential criterion for meal preparation, it will not be included in this evaluation due to the professor’s inability to taste the dishes. 4. Take clear photos or record a video of the entire preparation process, from ingredient selection to the final plated dishes. 5. Provide brief written captions or narrations in the video describing each step. 6. Submit either a photo collage with descriptions or a short video (8-15 minutes max) collected in gdrive on or before January 3, 2025. 7. You are expected to innovate, enjoy the process, and take pride in creating a meal that your families will love and cherish during the holiday season!
