Mindfulness Lab

Focus and Flow

December
The "Focus and Flow" theme in the Mindfulness
Lab is designed to help young children develop
their ability to concentrate and stay engaged in
the present moment. Through simple, hands-on
activities, children will learn to direct their
attention, calm their minds, and immerse
themselves in the flow of a task. This theme nurtures their capacity to be mindful and
enjoy the process of learning and exploration.

Objectives

• To enhance children's concentration and focus through mindful breathing and

tactile activities.
• To promote a sense of calm and relaxation by engaging children in activities that
encourage flow and present-moment awareness.

Instructions

Materials Required:

Bubble Breathing:
• Bubble wands (one per child)
• Bubble solution in small dishes

Finger Tracing:
• Paper with simple patterns (spirals, wavy lines,
etc.)
• Textured materials like sandpaper or velvet
Activity 1-Bubble Breathing

Before the Activity:

• Arrange the materials beforehand, ensuring each child has a bubble wand and a
small dish of bubble solution.
• Briefly explain the activity to the children, telling them they will practice taking deep
breaths and focusing on bubbles. Let them know this will help them feel calm and
happy.

During the Activity:

• Show the children how to dip the wand into the

bubble solution and blow gently to create bubbles.
Emphasize the importance of taking a deep breath
before blowing.
• As the children blow bubbles, encourage them to
focus on the bubbles as they float away. Ask them
to watch the bubbles carefully until they pop,
noticing how they move and disappear.
• Remind the children to take slow, deep breaths before blowing more bubbles. Walk
around the classroom to assist and encourage children who may need help.

After the Activity:

• Gather the children and ask them how they felt while blowing and watching the
bubbles. Did they notice feeling more relaxed?
• Highlight the importance of focusing on their breathing and how they can use this
technique whenever they feel upset or distracted.
Activity 2-Finger Tracing

Before the Activity:

• Prepare the tracing patterns on paper and lay out the textured materials like
sandpaper or velvet. Ensure that each child has a pattern sheet.
• Explain to the children that they will be tracing shapes with their fingers to help them
focus and feel calm. Let them know that this is a fun way to relax and concentrate.

During the Activity:

• Show the children how to slowly trace the pattern with

their finger, paying close attention to how it feels.
Encourage them to notice the sensation of their finger
moving along the lines.
• Walk around the room, gently reminding the children
to focus on the movement and texture. If using textured
materials, encourage them to describe how it feels.
• Allow the children to trace at their own pace, promoting a calm and unhurried
atmosphere. Encourage them to repeat the tracing if they enjoy it.

After the Activity:

• Ask the children how it felt to trace the patterns and whether they noticed anything
special about the textures.
• Reinforce the idea that focusing on small, simple tasks can help them feel more
cantered and peaceful.
