ACADEMIC
SOCIAL MEDIA PERFORMANCE

Figure 1. The Conceptual Paradigm of the Study

In their study, the researchers used the IV-DV Model. The independent variable was

social media, while the dependent variable was academic performance.

Social media refers to online platforms where people can connect, share ideas, and create

content. Examples include Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. It’s a way for people to

communicate and interact with each other over the internet. Academic performance refers to how

well a student achieves their educational goals. This is usually measured through grades, test

scores, and overall participation in learning activities. It can also refer to the General Percentage

Average (GPA) of the participants from the first semester period of the school year 2024-2025

The diagram above suggests that there is a relationship between social media usage and

students’ academic performance. This implies that the amount of time students spend on social

media could affect their academic results. This is clearly shown by the arrow pointing to the box

representing the students’ academic performance.

Thus, the study sought to explore the connection between social media and the academic

performance of Grade 12 students at Bilad High School.

Therefore, the study aimed to understand how social media usage relates to the academic

performance of Grade 12 students at Bilad High School.
