ABSTRACT

The purpose of the baseline study was to identify the needs and strategies for the
empowerment of women and youth. The development of any country depends on its women
and youth. Women in rural and urban areas are marginalized from the mainstream economy.
Lack of empowerment is one of the barriers to more active involvement. Standards of
living are low and poverty is widespread. Yet empowerment by allowing the women and youth to
lead the way would enable sustainable development due to ownership. Any attempt to raise the
standards of living of women, youth and their families should incorporate empowerment asa key
strategy.
This is an attitudinal, structural and cultural process where young people gain the ability,
authority and agency to make decisions and implement change in their own lives and the lives
of other people including children and adults. Youth empowerment occurs in the homes, school,
youth organizations, government policy-making, and community organizing campaigns.
Not only should young people be empowered but women too. History and cultural
practices have rendered women inferior to men in most countries, Zimbabwe included. There is
therefore a push towards gender equality through the empowerment of women in various spheres
of life.
Alcohol and drug use continues to be significant global problems with many health and
economic consequences. Multiple studies have shown that the majority of adults who end up with
an alcohol/drug use disorder have their first contact with these substances as adolescents. This
article aims to briefly summarize the current prevalence and impact on society, as well as it’s a
etiology, comorbid psychiatric disorders, and treatment and prevention of adolescent drug and
alcohol use. Substance use and abuse result from intricate interactions between genetic and
environmental influences.

CHAPTER 1: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

As per the community service project, the topic selected is Women and Youth
Empowerment. the study was to identify the needs and strategies for the empowerment of
women and youth. The development of any country depends on its women and youth. Women
in rural and urban areas are marginalized from the mainstream economy. The study was to
identify the needs and strategies for empowering women and youth. The development of any
country depends on its women and youth. Women in rural and urban areas are marginalized
from the mainstream economy.

In spite of the above, the people in the villages are not aware of their fundamental rights
like the right to study and fundamental principles and rights at work. Create greater opportunities
for women and men to secure decent employment and income. Enhance the coverage and
effectiveness of social protection for all.

Empowering women is essential to the health and social development of families,

communities and countries. When women live safe, fulfilled and productive lives, they can reach
their full potential. Contributing their skills to the workforce can raise happier and healthier
children.

Youth empowerment is a process where children and young people are encouraged to take
charge of their lives. They do this by addressing their situation and then taking action in order to
improve their access to resources and transform their consciousness through their beliefs, values
and attitudes.

Empowerment enables leaders and team members to live at their fullest potential and to
own their own work. Leaders who build a culture of empowerment set their people up for success
in their lives in future.

We are feeling absolutely proud for giving me the opportunity to do a project to bring
some awareness to women and youth from getting awareness of alcohol and drugs.

CHAPTER 2: OVERVIEW OF THE COMMUNITY

The project women and youth empowerment where awareness of this is very less in some villages.
that, we have selected Thanam villages w have selected where there are very few girls studying
in the government primary and high schools. so, we decided to give awareness of education to the
families by taking surveys. at the time of survives only we have told the advantages of getting
educating the children and providing equality for both boys and girls.

Historical profile and traditions: The survey was conducted in the villages Thanam hold
a population of 7000 it is different religions and traditions and stands as a good example of
secularism.

Although in this modern era people follow the traditions and conduct a village festival
in January every year. Although the village is located next to city limits the people follow the
ancient tradition like rearing cattle and growing all seasonal crops without any egoistic feelings
irrespective of their status.

Describe the problems you have identified in the community

• The main problem very less the number of girls children getting educated in rural areas.
• The secondary thing is the girl child who is going to schools only getting the education up
to tenth only. due to their family situations, there are stopping their education afterthe
10th class.
• every year joining of girl students in schools is reducing in rural areas.
• In the schools also the children are not getting the proper skills.
• In rural areas they are no proper sanitation.

Short-term and long-term action plans for possible solutions for the problems
identified could be recommended to the concerned authorities for
implementation.

As all of us know and are aware that educating a girl child is also important in her life.
and providing equality between the boy and the girl. no gender discrimination should be shown
the above problems can be solved by getting awareness programs, telling the parents thebenefits
of educating a girl child and also the government also should provide proper education in rural
areas as they are providing in urban cities and developing the government schools with high skill
full teachers. and making the students of high skill full by providing proper education. providing
education is not a thing that is educating the children or telling them the right to live. by making
all these things we can solve the above problems.

Description of the Community awareness programme conducted w.r.t the

problems and their outcomes.

1. It will have a positive impact on society among students and village people.
2. It also improves the ability to fight against narcotics and respect women in society.
3. It also improves personal identity and moral development among students and village
people.
4. It also gives satisfaction to the faculty with the quality of student learning.
