Script

10-Minute Documentary Script: "Raising Accidents in India"

Theme: Understanding the causes, impact, and solutions to India’s rising
road accidents.
Narrative Spine: The documentary explores the alarming frequency of
road accidents in India, their underlying causes, the devastating human
impact, and potential solutions.
Character Structure:
 Protagonists: Accident victims and their families (human
element).
 Experts: Policymakers and road safety advocates.
 Villain: Systemic issues—reckless driving, poor infrastructure, and
lack of enforcement.

Script
Opening Scene (0:00–1:00)
Visuals:
 A dark screen with faint sounds of screeching tires and sirens.
 Montage of accident footage from online sources (blurred as
necessary).
 Statistics fade in: “Over 1.5 lakh people die in road accidents in
India each year.”
Narration (Voiceover):
"Every four minutes, a life is lost on India’s roads. Behind these
numbers are stories of shattered families and preventable tragedies."
Audio:
 Intense background music.
 Sound effects: Honking, distant sirens, and screeching tires.

Scene 1: Understanding the Causes (1:00–3:00)

Visuals:
 Close-up shots of overspeeding vehicles, drivers using mobile
phones, and jaywalkers.
 Mobile phone footage of potholes and poorly maintained roads.
 Drone shots of traffic jams and chaotic intersections.
Narration (Voiceover):
"India’s roads are plagued by reckless driving, poor infrastructure, and a
lack of enforcement of traffic laws. Over 70% of accidents are caused by
human error—errors that can be prevented."
Audio:
 Background noise of horns and traffic.
 Subtle, ominous music to build tension.

Scene 2: The Human Cost (3:00–6:00)

Visuals:
 Emotional footage of an accident survivor sharing their experience
(recorded on a mobile phone).
 Photos of victims (used ethically) fading in and out.
 Clips of families grieving, wrecked vehicles, and hospital scenes.
Narration (Voiceover):
"Every accident leaves behind grief, pain, and loss. Families are broken,
and survivors often face lifelong struggles—physically, emotionally, and
financially."
Audio:
 Soft, emotional instrumental music.
 Survivor’s voice faintly heard, but narration remains central.

Scene 3: Systemic Failures (6:00–7:30)

Visuals:
 News clips of traffic accidents and press conferences on road
safety.
 Graphs and charts displaying accident trends and statistics.
 Footage of under-lit highways and poor signage.
Narration (Voiceover):
"Why does this crisis persist? A lack of investment in road safety,
inadequate enforcement of laws, and outdated infrastructure contribute
significantly to the rising toll."
Audio:
 News reports as background audio, fading into narration.

Scene 4: Pathways to Prevention (7:30–9:00)

Visuals:
 Campaign footage promoting seatbelt and helmet use.
 Mobile-recorded shots of traffic cameras, improved roadways, and
disciplined drivers.
 Online clips of road safety awareness workshops and initiatives.
Narration (Voiceover):
"Solutions exist—stricter enforcement, better infrastructure, and
community awareness can save thousands of lives each year. Public-
private partnerships and government policies like the Motor Vehicles Act
2019 are steps in the right direction."
Audio:
 Uplifting music to inspire hope and action.

Closing Scene: Call to Action (9:00–10:00)

Visuals:
 A compilation of safe driving practices: wearing helmets, using
seatbelts, and following traffic rules.
 Text overlay: “Road safety begins with you.”
 Contact information for road safety helplines and NGOs.
Narration (Voiceover):
"Every individual plays a role in making our roads safer. Together, we
can change these statistics and save lives. Drive responsibly, follow the
rules, and be the change."
Audio:
 Inspirational instrumental score fading out.

End Credits (Optional)

End Description –
“To every audience, please understand—every decision you make on the
road matters. Slow down, wear your seatbelt, and follow the rules. These
small actions can save lives. Trust me, you never want to see someone
you love suffer because of an accident that could have been prevented.
