I am Lynet Machakwa.

I am the only child born of Chipo Machakwa and

Eden Gadaga. Both my parents are self-employed and run successful
clothing retail outfits which I assist from time to time.
I attended A level in 2021 on the 28th of February and finished on the
28th of October 2022. Outside of my studies, I developed a keen interest
in basketball and managed to play for the school team. In my senior
year, I was awarded the “Most Valuable Player” award for the season,
which currently sits as one of my greatest achievements to date!
Through basketball, I learnt to communicate effectively and teamwork.
I thoroughly enjoy the physical and mental aspects of the game and
through this experience, I hope to take all skills and life lessons learnt to
aid me in my university journey.
I wish to pursue a degree in Accounting and Finance because I believe it
matches my skills, interests and abilities to understand numbers in a set
of accounts. I also believe this degree will be a more rewarding path
due to its high demand in the market and it aligns with my future
prospects and ambitions. Accounting marries my love for numbers with
the practical application of business. Being raised in an entrepreneurial
family, accounting easily became the degree of choice as my parents
constantly outsource their bookkeeping to other individuals. I wish to
bridge that gap and expand on what is already a successful model. My
ambition is not only limited to the family but extends to the
community. I have a strong desire to aid in the development of my
home town, Kadoma, and provide employment opportunities as they
are currently scarce at the moment.
Working as cashier in my mother’s business, I’ve not only learnt about
the value of money but also sales and innovative thinking which I think
are valuable assets needed to succeed in Accounting and Finance.
I chose the United Kingdom (UK) because of its advanced tertiary
education and institution and their rigorous curriculum. My cousin
studied in Edinburg at Herriot-Watt University and her experience there
was second to none! She has since returned to Zimbabwe and is
currently employed in a managerial position with ZSE listed company;
and is running a successful business. She attributes this to her
experience and education that she garnered abroad. I wish to utilize he
roadmap as a stencil to pave my own way to my future. I also revere
the UK for its diversity and inclusion. I believe Bristol university will be
the perfect place to incubate and nourish my career.
