Welcome to the Arts 7 Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Module on Arts and Crafts
of Luzon (Highlands and Lowlands).

Do you love art? Have you ever dreamed of becoming an artist? Art has been a part
of our lives for as long as humanity has existed. For thousands of years, people have
been creating, looking, criticizing, and enjoying art. I would like to address three
questions: what is art, what is its purpose, and why has it survived for this long.

This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities for
guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. It will enable you to
process the contents of the learning resource while being an active learner.

This module has the following parts and corresponding icons:

What I Need to Know This will give you an idea of the skills or
competencies you are expected to learn in
the module.

What I Know This part includes an activity that aims to


check what you already know about the
lesson to take. If you get all the answers
correctly, you may decide to skip this module.

What’s In This is a brief drill or review to help you link


the current lesson with the previous one.

What’s New In this portion, the new lesson will be

learned concepts.

The following are some reminders in using this module:

1. Use the module with care. Do not put unnecessary mark/s on any part of the
module. Use your MAPEH activity notebook (big notebook) in answering the
written tasks. For activities like drawing, designing, etc., use bond papers in
doing the tasks of which later be made into portfolio. While some outputs that
require creative skill like mat and ball weaving, flower and collage making,
etc., should be done and be included in your submission.
2. Don’t forget to answer What I Know before moving on to the other activities
included in the module. Please answer the questions HONESTLY! Your
answers will not affect your grade.
3. Read the instruction carefully before doing each task.
4. Observe honesty and integrity in doing the tasks and checking your answers.
5. Finish the task at hand before proceeding to the next.
6. Return this module to your teacher/facilitator once you are through with it.

What I Need to Know

Arts and crafts are important means of expression which communicate views,
ideals, and feelings through the use of skills and imagination. These are
important parts of our daily lives and can be found everywhere.

This module will take you to the journey of arts and crafts of Luzon (Lowlands).
You will become familiar with the different designs, motifs, and history of their
attires, fabrics, crafts, and accessories used by the people of different regions.

After going through this module, you are expected to show the relationship of the
development of crafts in specific areas of the country, according to functionality,
traditional specialized expertise, and availability of resources (e.g. pottery,
weaving, jewelry, baskets).

Specifically, you are expected to:

1. identify the functions of arts and crafts of Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon,


and Central Luzon;
2. create crafts using local materials;
3. promote the arts and crafts made by Filipinos using resources available in
the area.

The arts and crafts of Luzon is a representation of one’s culture and beliefs of the
people long time ago. This lesson will discuss more artworks done in the past for
us to mirror how creative they are in terms of their living.

FUNCTIONS OF ART

All arts have a function. Art has three general functions: first, art satisfies our
individual needs for personal expression. It communicates our thoughts, ideas,
and emotions. Second, it performs a social function when it tends or aims to
influence the collective behavior of a person. It also meets our social needs for
display, celebration and communication. Third, it answers our physical needs for
comfort.

Art functions can be classified into:

1. Motivated (Functional)
Examples: Architecture, weaving, furniture-making

2. Non-motivated (Non-functional)
Examples: Painting, sculpture, literature, music and the theater art

What I Can Do

Activity 3: Flower Making

Materials Needed:

 Coconut Ginit
 Coconut bud (putot)
 1 ruler stick (1 end should be pointed)
 Adhesive tape or any tying material
 Paint (optional)

Procedure

1. Gather all the materials needed.

2. Cut the ginit into petal shapes (half a ruler in size).

3. Poke the pointed end of the stick into the


center of the coconut bud.

4. Then, place the petals around the stick to form a


flower. Tie to fix its position.

5. Check you work if it’s properly done.
