For the facilitator:
Welcome to the Grade 3 Mathematics Alternative Delivery
Mode (ADM) Module on Visualizing and Generating Equivalent
Fractions!
This module was collaboratively designed, developed and
reviewed by educators both from public and private institutions
to assist you, the teacher or facilitator in helping the learners
meet the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum while
overcoming their personal, social, and economic constraints in

What I Need to Know

This module was designed and written with you in mind to

help you read and write fractions that are equal to one and
greater than one. The scope of this module permits it to be
used in many different learning situations. The language used
recognizes your diverse vocabulary backgrounds. The lessons
are arranged to follow the standard sequence of the course but
the order in which you read them can be changed to
correspond with the Mathematics Grade 3 learning materials
you are using.
After going through this module, you are expected to:
Visualize and generate equivalent fractions. (M3NS-IIIe-72.7)

Enjoy your journey. Good luck!

n Equivalent Fractions
The children like you are fond of reading different stories
and poems that could give life lessons. In this module, you will
learn how to write sentences describing one’s drawing from the
stories/ poems listened to.

What’s In

We can form different figures from folding a papers.

1. Fold the paper in half. Color one-half of it. How many halves
are formed? ________
What fraction represents the colored part? ________

Fold the paper again. Count the total number of parts. How
many parts are colored red now? _________
What fraction represents the colored parts? __________

What fraction was shown when the paper was folded the first
time?
What fraction was shown when the paper was folded the
second time? 2/4
What do you notice with the colored parts in both fractions?

What’s New

Fractions like ½ and 2/4 show the same fractional part.

They are fractions with the same value. Fractions that have the
same value are called EQUIVALENT FRACTIONS.

What is It

Equivalent Fractions are fractions whose values are equal.

They show the same fractional part.
To obtain the fraction equivalent to a given fraction,
multiply or divide both the numerator and the denominator of
the given fraction by the same nonzero number.
Example:
1/2 x 2/2 = 2/4
2/4 ÷ 2/2 = 1/2

To simplify a fraction, divide the numerator and

denominator by their GCF.
Example:
2/4 ÷ 2/2 = 1/2
