The following flowchart outlines the design procedure for rectangular beams with concrete classes up to C50/60

where:
bt denotes the mean width of the tension zone; for a T-beam with the flange in ,
only the width of the web is taken into account in calculating the value of bt.
For rectangular sections it is the width of the beam.

fctm should be determined with respect to the relevant strength class according to Table 3.1.
