§1 INTRODUCTION AND CAUTIONS

1.1 Introduction
This service manual contains procedures for after-sales service of NIDEK ULTRASONIC
PACHYMETER Model UP-1000.
For correct after-sales service, you must understand thoroughly this manual before servicing.
This manual corresponds to simple replacement of the units.
If following this service manual cannot repair the instrument, inform NIDEK of the serial
number of the instrument and the details of the symptom(s). NIDEK will inform you of the
repair procedure for each case. In addition, if measurement can be performed, inform
NIDEK also of the reference value printed on the test piece and the measured data of the test
piece.
1-2

1.2 Cautions
• Before checking the instrument and doing repair work, turn off the power switch and
disconnect the power cord from the outlet.

• Apply a thread-locking adhesive to the screws after servicing.

• Check the number and direction of other connectors, and then connect connectors.

• When disconnecting a connector, do not yank the cable but hold the connector to disconnect
it.

• When disconnecting the soldered wiring, observe the following:

• For wires with heat-shrinkable tubes, take off the heat-shrinkable tubes with a cutter.

• Warm the soldered part with a soldering iron, and then disconnect the wiring.

• Remove the old solder.

• When wiring with a soldering iron, observe the following:

• For wires with heat-shrinkable tubes, draw the cable through a heat-shrinkable tube
before soldering, and after soldering, shrink it by warming it with a drier.

• Before soldering, apply preparatory solder to a cable and a terminal.

• Insert a cable conductor into a terminal hole and twist it around the terminal, and then
solder the parts for the power source such as the main switch, fuse folder, and inlet.

• When soldering the circuit board, check that soldering residue does not remain around
the soldered area.
