What is heat sink?

A heat sink is an electronic device which absorbs the heat generated by the processor while working.

What is SMPS?

The computer uses a unit called power supply unit(PSU) which changes AC input to DC inside the
computer and also reduces the input voltage value. This power supply unit is called SMPS(switched
mode power supply).

What is AGP?

Accelerated Graphics port is a special type of port which is used to connect a video card.

Full form and the use of the devices:

1. BCR: Bar Code Reader

Use: Bar Code Reader is a photoelectric scanner that reads the bar codes or vertical zebra stripe
marks printed on products.

2. MICR: Magnetic Ink Character Reader

Use: MICR is generally used in bank to recognize and read bank code and cheque numbers and this
reading process is called Magnetic Ink Character Recognition.

3. OMR: Optical Mark Recognition

Use: OMR is a special type of scanner used to recognize the type of mark made by either a pen or a
pencil. It is specially used to check examination answer sheets with multiple questions.

4. OCR: Optical Character Reader

Use: OCR is used to read printed text. It scan the text character by character and convert it into
machine readable code and store it into memory. It is commonly used to converts a book and other
printed or written documents into electronic files.

Use of Graphics Tablet or Digitizer

A graphics tablet or digitizer enables the user to write or draw images, just like a person draws
images with a pencil on a paper. This device may also be used to capture data or handwritten
signatures. Capturing data in this way is called digitizing.
Motherboard: The motherboard is usually defined as a thin circuit board. This board holds together
almost all the parts of a computer except output and input devices. This means that crucial hardware
like memory, CPU, ports for output and input devices, and hard drives are all located on the
motherboard.

Some of the most commonly used components are as follows:

1. CPU slot 2. RAM slot 3. Expansion slot 4. Capacitor 5. Northbridge 6. USB slot

7. PCI slot 8. AGP slot 9. Heat Sink 10. Power Connector
