Assignment Title: Design and Analysis of a Sustainable Hybrid Power Station for

a Remote Area

Objective:
Develop a conceptual design of a hybrid power station (e.g., solar, wind, and diesel backup) that
supplies reliable power to a remote area with minimal environmental impact.

Assignment Guidelines

1. Problem Statement

 A remote village (Tentative energy demand 50 kW) has no access to the national grid.
 Design a power station that meets their energy requirements while addressing technical,
economic, and environmental constraints.

2. Key Tasks

1. Load Estimation: Calculate daily and peak power requirements of the village based on
hypothetical or provided data.
2. Technology Selection: Decide on the energy mix (solar, wind, diesel, hydro, etc.) and
justify your choices based on availability of resources.
3. System Design:

 Propose a system configuration (e.g., PV panels, wind turbines, battery storage, diesel
generators).
 Draw a block diagram for the system.

4. Economic Feasibility: Perform a cost analysis (capital, operation, maintenance).

5. Environmental Impact Assessment:
 Analyze and minimize the carbon footprint of the proposed solution.
6. Reliability Analysis:
 Assess power reliability metrics such as Loss of Load Probability (LOLP) or Reliability
Index.
7. Optimization: Propose ways to improve cost-effectiveness or efficiency.

3. Deliverables

 A detailed report containing:

o Assumptions and data sources
o Calculations and justifications
o Proposed design and system diagram
o Economic and environmental analyses
