• vCloud Director uses SSL to secure communications between clients


and servers.
• Before you install and configure a vCloud Director server group, you
must create two certificates for each server (cell) in the group:
• One for the HTTP service
• One for the console proxy service
圈 Certificates can be self-signed, but the best practice is to use an
external Certificate Authority.
• Security administrators should consult vC/oud Director Installation and
Configuration Guide for certificate requirements.

Before installation ofvCloud Director, you must install security certificates. This installation should
be done after you have confirmed that your network configuration is correct (including DNS) and
that you have the correct version ofJava Runtime Envirorunent. You must use the JRE key七ool
command to create your certificate requests.
You can use either self-signed security certificates or certificates that have been issued by an
external Certificate Authority (CA).
