Microsoft Azure Fundamentals


Course Description
Azure Fundamentals provides basic knowledge about cloud concepts and core Azure services and
solutions. This course also provides the fundamentals of security, privacy, compliance, and trust when
using Azure.

Prerequisites: NSA-510

Course Learning Outcomes


By the end of this course, you will attain an introduction to the core principles and skills of cloud
computing and Azure

1. Describe basic cloud computing concepts, explain CapEx and OpEx computing costs and the
economies of scale, identify cloud deployment models, and explain cloud service models.
2. Explain subscriptions and billing accounts, plan costs for Azure services, describe Azure service-
level agreements (SLAs), and describe the Azure service lifecycle.
3. Describe core architectural components such as regions, geographies, region pairs, Availability
Zones, and resource groups; describe and use Azure tools such as Azure Portal, Azure PowerShell,
Azure CLI, Cloud Shell, and Azure Mobile App; and describe and use Azure monitoring tools such as
Azure Monitor and Azure Service Health.
4. Describe services available for compute such as virtual machines, virtual machine scale sets, Azure
Container Instances (ACI), Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), and Windows Virtual Desktop; describe
Serverless computing and Azure products such as Azure Functions, Logic Apps, and Event Grid;
describe App Services and the Azure Marketplace; describe networking services available for Azure,
including virtual networks (VNets), VPN Gateway, Virtual Network peering, and ExpressRoute.
5. Describe Azure storage including the usage of Container (Blob) storage, Disk storage, File storage,
and storage tiers; describe Azure databases including the usage of Cosmos DB, Azure SQL.
6. Describe the internet of things (IoT) and Azure IoT products such as IoT Hub, IoT Central, and Azure
Sphere; as Azure DevOps, Azure DevTest Labs, GitHub, and GitHub Actions.
7. Describe Azure security tools and features, explain network connection security, explain core
identity services.
8. Describe Azure governance features, describe Azure privacy and trust features, describe Azure
compliance features.

Course Prerequisite
Successful completion of the Networking and IT Essentials (NSA-510) course is a prerequisite for
enrolling in this course.
This course is a prerequisite for Microsoft Azure Administration (NSA-540) course.

Grading
Student Evaluation
Assessments have been prepared to evaluate how students are meeting the learning outcomes of this
course.
With the recent shift to online and alternative formats for course delivery, and to support the changing
needs of student learning, MITT reserves the right to change existing evaluation, graded weighting and
due dates/times. Any changes will be communicated to students in advance.

Missed and Late Assessments


Students are required to submit all items of work (including assignments, projects, etc.); write tests and
examinations, and complete practical assessments on the date assigned by the instructor. Any
assessment item not completed on or by the deadline will receive a mark of zero (0).

Instructors may, at their discretion, make academic accommodations in the event of absences for a valid
reason. All requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis and accommodation is not guaranteed
(see the MITT Attendance Policy for details).

A passing grade in this course is 50%.

Evaluation Details

Labs and Assignments: Students are required to submit all items of work, including labs and
assignments, to be eligible to write tests and exams. Labs and assessments are due on the date and time
assigned by the instructor. Any assessment item, not completed on or by the deadline, will receive a
mark of zero (0). Note: If all labs are not submitted on time, a student will NOT be allowed to attempt
the Final Theory and Final Skills exams

Final Skills Exam: The final skills exam will take place on July 18, 2024, at 11:30 A.M. The exam will be 2-
3 hours long. There is no rewrite available for the Skills Final Exam.
Final Theory Exam: The final theory exams will take place on July 19, 2024, at 11:30 A.M. Exam will be
60-90 minutes and will consist of a combination of multiple choice and fill in the blank questions. There
is no rewrite available for Final theory exam.

learning resources to help students brainstorm ideas and grammar/spell check their academic work.
However, students must exercise extreme caution when using these technologies for academic
purposes, especially with AI-generated assignment content. Unauthorized use of such AI tools, especially
in cases in which the student gains an unfair academic advantage, represents a form of academic
dishonesty.

MITT expects students to submit original work for all graded assessments. To create original content for
their academic work, students must research the topic, present their perspective on the topic in their
own words, build on the ideas of others, and acknowledge all sources of information. Furthermore,
students must discuss intended use of AI assistance with their instructor before assignment submission
to obtain consent for use of specific AI tools and clarify potential restrictions.

Instructors may permit use (or limited use) of AI tools in specific courses depending on learning and
assessment objectives.

If not otherwise authorized, MITT may treat undeclared AI-generated content in student assessment as
a form of academic misrepresentation and inappropriate collaboration. Such infringements will be
subject to the MITT Academic Integrity and Student Discipline policies.
