SALT WATER

CHLORINATOR
MANUAL

CONTROL PANEL INDICATORS

Salt content is correct. Optimal salt

SALT CORRECT
concentration should be 0.7% or more
(GREEN)
(70kg per 10 000ℓ).
Add salt to your pool. Approximately
SALT LOW (RED)
25kg per 10 000ℓ.
Check the cell’s electrical connections.
CELL (RED)
The cell is worn out. No flow.
100% chlorine production, usually
HIGH (GREEN) used in summer when water is warmer
and chlorine demand is higher.
50% chlorine production, usually used
LOW (GREEN) in winter when water is colder and
chlorine demand is low.
Stop chlorine production. Use when
OFF (RED) dosing other chemicals to prevent
damage to the cell.
Blinking = Starting Up
STATUS (BLUE) On = Sanitising
3 Blinks = Self-Cleaning

1
OUTPUT CONTROL
The chlorine output select button is located in between the cell cable and mains cable.
Pressing the button will select OFF-LOW-HIGH-OFF.

MAINTENANCE
The chlorinator cell may require periodic cleaning, should you observe calcium
(white deposit) on the electrodes.
Cell Maintenance
To clean the cell, make sure the control unit is switched off, then loosen the two unions
at the inlet and outlet of the cell. Screw a blanking cap onto one end of the cell and hold
vertically. Fill the cell housing with diluted pool acid (1 part acid to 9 parts water) and
leave for a couple of minutes unit the white deposits have dissolved. Discard the acid/
water solution and refit the cell.
Water Maintenance
When the low salt light comes on, switch off the chlorinator to protect the cell and restart
after correcting salt level by adding salt at a rate of 25kg per 10 000ℓ (2.5g per litre).
Recommended pool water balance
Chlorine 1 - 3ppm (1ppm in winter & 2 - 3ppm in summer)
pH 7.2 - 7.6
Calcium Hardness 175 - 275ppm
Stabiliser 20 - 60ppm
Plaster: 80 – 125 ppm
Total Alkalinity
Vinyl / painted / fibreglass: 125 - 150 ppm

HOW TO PROLONG THE LIFE EXPECTANCY OF YOUR CELL

• Ensure correct salt concentration. 0.7% or more. NB!!! Do not let salt go below the
recommended level to avoid damage to the cell.
• Switch off the chlorinator if the pool water temperature is colder than 12 degrees
Celsius.
• Ensure control unit is off when cleaning the electrodes or when dosing other
chemicals.
• Only use diluted acid when cleaning the electrodes.
• The electrodes have a 10 000 – 15 000-hour life expectancy. Avoid excessive
operation i.e. choose a pool pump cycle that is sufficient to generate enough chlorine
required to sanitise your pool and no more.
• Select the appropriate chlorinator production level on the unit to avoid excessive cell
wear.

SALT SOLUTION CONTROL UNIT INSTALLATION

Mount the control unit vertically against a flat surface (wall etc), preferably out of direct
sunlight and out of the direct path of garden sprinklers. The control unit is splash / rain
proof when mounted correctly.

2
Do not install the control unit inside a box, as the control unit requires air for cooling
purposes.
The ‘A.C.’ mains cable can be connected to the output of the pump timer. This must be
undertaken or authorized by a registered electrician.
The chlorinator ‘earth’ lead (green / yellow) must be connected to the ‘earth bus’ inside
the distribution board or in accordance with the earthing requirements of the relevant local
authorities, if specifically required.

SALT SOLUTION CELL INSTALLATION

Install the cell as shown in the accompanying diagram.
Install the cell with unions at the cell inlet and outlet as this is a consumable item that
requires maintenance.
The cell must be installed as the last piece of equipment in the pool return line i.e.
downstream of any receptacles, pool heaters, solar heaters and other equipment.
Cell connection – The cell leads connect to the jack connectors on the right side of the
control unit. There is no specific polarity.
If the cell is installed below the pool water level, isolating valves (PVC ball types) should
be fitted at the cell outlet and pump suction line.
