1. DESCRIPTION
CEP100 (406MHz Satellite EPIRB) is used to alert search and rescue services on
maritime. This is designed to comply with IMO SOLAS requirements (GMDSS) and
Cospas-Sarsat technical standard (T.001). This is a powerful self-contained distress
transmitter.
CEP100 with a built-In GNSS receiver transmits distress alert signal including self
position of below 10 meters accuracy using GEO Satellite. In distress, the signal is
transferred to Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) without delay through Local User
Terminal (LUT) so that Search and Rescue goes in quick action.
When vessel sinks, hydrostatic Release Unit (HRU) releases a container rid automatically
to eject the EPIRB. It also be operated while on board or in a life raft. The EPIRB is
transmitting 406MHz frequency with homing 121MHz.

must be stick-up vertically.
b) There are all 4 LEDs on both sides. 121.5MHz and 406MHz LED will flicker, when
each of distress signal is transmitted. LOW BATT. LED shows battery life time, and
when less voltage left the LED getting brighter. GPS LOCK LED will turn on when
GPS get the signal from satellites.
c) This is a strong LED strobe. When CEP100 is activated, this will flash every 3 seconds
which is visible through the clear lens dome.
d) This is a GPS patch antenna that gets GPS data from geostationary satellites.
e) This switch can manually control the operation of the EPIRB. This stays in the middle
of the boundary basically that indicates “READY” in the state of the EPIRB. If you
slide the switch to left side, then the EPIRB is on “TEST MODE”. If you slide it to
right side, then the EPIRB turns “ACTIVATE”
f) The sea switch is automatic activation device of the EPIRB. When it is contacted with
water, it automatically activates the EPIRB. Be sure you to keep it dry, unless the
EPIRB is staying in its container.
h) This holds the container to be closed fitting with HRU. If you want to take out
manually the EPIRB from the container, you must pull the pin out from the HRU’s
fitting hole.
i) This transparent window allows you to watch inside of the container without open it.
You can easily check an operating status of the EPIRB.
j) Hydrostatic Release Unit (HRU) is automatic release device that this will open the

2. INSTALLATION
Before you install the EPIRB, you should decide a suitable mounting position on your
vessel. It should be mounted upright against a vertical bulkhead. It is critical that you
choose a position where the released EPIRB will not get trapped by overhangs, when the
vessel ever sinks. Use the list below to choose a suitable mounting position.
2.1 MOUNTING
[5]
See illustrations for mounting dimension or use the backplate of the container as a
marking guide.
Step 1. Mark 4 fixing positions as illustrated above.
Step 2. Open the container and hold the bottom to fit at the marked points
Step 3. Mount container against a flat surface using 4 fixing screws
Step 4. Check mounted container is firmly fixed
2.2 PLACING
See illustrations for placing EPIRB or use the backplate of the container as a marking
guide.
Step 1. Check direction for placing EPIRB. Switch must be faced outside.
Step 2. Sit the EPIRB into the container.
Step 3. Bend antenna along a pole of HRU. <- 수정필요
Step 4. To close the container, CONSIDER the hole of upper cover of container.
Step 5. Push in the lock pin into the hole of a pole.
Put the EPIRB on Close the cover Fit the fin to hold the
cover
CAUTION: When you place EPIRB into the container, you should make sure right
direction of placing it. The Switch MUST stay right at the center, while the EPIRB
stays in the container. Otherwise it may cause to be occurred a false operation.
[6]
3. OPERATION
3.1 ACTIVATION
CEP100 can be activated by two processes, one is automatic activation, and the other is
manual activation. When CEP100 activates, the process below will be begin in order to
transfer distress signals.
NOTE: Once the EPIRB activates, strobe light will be flashing immediately by every 2
seconds, however it will not transmit a distress alert for 2 minutes. This gives you a time to
turn this off if you activated it by mistakes.
When EPIRB is activating, you should check the list below as guidance for getting the best
from the EPIRB.
þ EPIRB should keep staying upright. If possible it would be better to be held.
þ Hang the lanyard with life raft and let the EPIRB to float in the sea
If the EPIRB is not operating properly with user’s heedless (against above list),
manufacturer does not take a responsibility.
[7]
AUTOMATIC ACTIVATION
CEP100 is designed with Float-free activation. It contains a spring-loaded lever which
automatically pushes the container lid off and releases the EPIRB, if a vessel sinks. This
automatic ejection is controlled by a device named Hydrostatic Release Unit (HRU). This
cuts a plastic pole which retains the lever before the container reaches 2 ~ 4 meters depth.
Then the container lid is ejected and releases the EPIRB to float on the surface and
switches on automatically by sea switch. See the illustration below.

ejected
1) When the vessel sinks, the container fills with seawater. The HRU will operate when
the container sinks under 2~4 meters depth from the surface of water. After, it cuts the
plastic pole and the coil spring is released.
2) The spring pushes the EPIRB out of the container, and lid will be ejected.
3) As the EPIRB floats away from the magnet, its sea switch activates automatically.
4) The EPIRB activates and floats on the surface with transmitting distress signal.
[8]
MANUAL ACTIVATION
If the vessel does not sink and there is enough time to activate the EPIRB manually in
imminent danger, eject the EPIRB from its container. See the section 3.5 for ejecting the
EPIRB from the container.
Once you took the EPIRB out, below instruction will help you for manual activation
1) Hold or put on the surface standing the antenna as upright as possible, and it must
have a clear view of the sky for proper operation.
Note: If the EPIRB stays near a metal wall or hole the antenna with hand will impair
signal and may fail to transmit distress alert for rescue services.
[9]
1) Hold or put on the surface standing the antenna as upright as possible, and it must
have a clear view of the sky for proper operation.
This action is for Self-Test for both user and inspector. See the section 4.1 Self-Test &
Inspection for more details.
3.3 DEACTIVATION
If the EPIRB has been activated for a cumulative period in excess of 2 hours then its
battery will need replacing. This is necessary to make sure that in an emergency it will
operate for the full 48 hours required by government regulations. See section 4.3 for
battery replacement instructions.
If the EPIRB was activated by mistake or the emergency ends, then the EPIRB must be
reset back to its “READY” state as follow action.
Step 1. Remove the EPIRB from any water, then dry its sea switch contacts
Step 2. Wait 10 seconds for sea switch to turn off
Step 3. Slide the switch at the center on READY
If the EPIRB is still flashing, then it has a fault. Refer to section 3.4 on False Alarms.
If the EPIRB need to be fully disable, you should follow instruction below.
[ 10 ]
CAUTION: There is a risk of electric shock in this task and should only be
conducted by a qualified technician.
Follow the instruction to release the CEP100 from the free-float container.
[ 11 ]
4. MAINTAINANCE
The EPIRB is an important item of safety equipment that it should be checked regularly.
CEP100 has a built-in test capability which confirms the battery, the GPS receiver, strobe
light, and both 406MHz and 121.5 MHz distress transmitters that are functional.
Checking list forms are provided at the back of this book, and you should check the
EPIRB regularly using the form. Below list introduces the interval for every items of a
check list.
SELF TEST
It is recommended that the Self-Test should be taken by every month.
Self-test is performed while push slide switch “TEST” position and the beacon has
activated in nominal mode(See the section 3.2). LOW BATT. LED will then light on,
followed by a flash of the strobe, indicating a successful test. During self-test, self-test
message is modified to prevent the satellite from forwarding an alert message during self-
test.
[ 12 ]
HRU Replacement interval is 2 year. If failure to replace the HRU at 2-yearly intervals
may result in failure operation and releasing the EPIRB in an emergency. The expiry date
is marked on top of the HRU’s body so that should be checked regularly. Follow the steps
below for HRU replacement.
Take old HRU out Replace new HRU Mark expire date
into the location on the New HRU
[ 13 ]
The battery has 5-year replacement interval basically. The expiry date is marked at the
back of the EPIRB, and it should be checked regularly.
A battery pack for the EPIRB is composed of three 3.6V Lithium batteries. This battery
pack is one shot device that you will need to replace the battery when:
This is not rechargeable or user replaceable. Therefore the battery replacement MUST be
performed by technician approved from service agent.
