THE CASE OF THE RED ROSE

INT. DINER - NIGHT

It’s dark. Two people, THE VICTIM and MARIAM stand facing each
other with no one else in sight. (The camera should avoid
showing their top halves to keep their identities hidden.) One
of the two people holds a gun and pulls the trigger.

One of the two people falls over, dead, and the other hurries
out of the diner, disappearing into the night.

(Take a shot of the exterior to use when the gunshot sound


plays.)

EXT. DINER - DAY

THE MANAGER arrives at the diner. Noticing that the door is


unlocked, he cautiously opens the door, only to be met with a
dead body on the floor. He screams and rushes to call the
police.

EXT. DINER - DAY

AHMAD, the detective, arrives on the scene, exits the car, and
orders the people around him.

AHMAD
I want everyone to stay in this area and no one is allowed to
leave until further orders.

AHMAD proceeds to examine the corpse and finds the cause of


death is a gunshot. He then proceeds to talk to THE MANAGER.

AHMAD
Do you have any footage of where the murder took place?
THE MANAGER
It’s right from the other side I’ll show you.

THE MANAGER leads AHMAD to the area where the Security works by
checking camera footage in multiple places. AHMAD checks through
the footage until he finds the DINER footage from where the
murder took place but the face is barely visible aside from the
rose-adorned headband. THE KILLER is sitting in front of THE
VICTIM both of their faces blurred, AHMAD notices that THE
KILLER is wiping the pages before it leaves the scene without
leaving any evidence behind beforehand. AHMAD stops at a certain
frame from a single glint of a dim-lighted rose headband that
THE KILLER is wearing.

AHMAD leaves the Security area and comes back to the diner and
gives out some orders.

AHMAD
I want to ask some questions to the whole staff if anyone has
seen something unusual.

THE WAITRESS then responded to AHMAD.

THE WAITRESS
I think I saw someone who wore a rose headband a few days
earlier but I can’t remember that much.

AHMAD nods to her answer and writes in his notebook about the
person with a rose headband who was in a diner a few days
earlier before the murder.
EXT. DINER - NIGHT

AHMAD is working on the murder case as he searches through the


customer list and finds the recent customer’s name by the name
of JAFAR. JAFAR was the suspect who might be THE KILLER which he
entered through a flower shop and purchased a rose and then left
the diner before AHMAD arrived at the diner. AHMAD then
approaches THE OWNER in questioning about the recent customer.

AHMAD
I’ve noticed something off about the customer list and Jafar is
the only recent customer who has entered this Diner before the
murder took place, if my proof is correct Jafar might be the
killer who we are searching for.

THE OWNER
You might be right, let’s hope that we can put an end to this.

INT. DINER - NIGHT

As AHMAD enters the DINER he spots both JAFAR and THE WAITRESS
cleaning the pool of blood on the floor, AHMAD pulls out his gun
and points them both.

AHMAD
FREEZE!! Stop at what you’re doing and back off from the floor.
Both JAFAR and THE WAITRESS step back from the bloodstained
floor.

AHMAD
Now sit in the middle!

They did as they were told by AHMAD as he started to negotiate


with them both for answers.

AHMAD
Now you’re going to tell me why you are both here in the first
place and I want to hear the real truth.
MARIAM
But not this time!

MARIAM points the gun towards JAFAR and fires a round but
misses. AHMAD rushes to take the gun away as he’s fighting her.

JAFAR gets up as he is handcuffed and finds an opportunity to


knock MARIAM out while AHMAD is fighting her. JAFAR managed to
knock her out and finally apprehended her.

EXT.DINER - NIGHT

As AHMAD handcuffs MARIAM, JAFAR reveals himself to be a private


detective as he explains the whole story.

JAFAR
I apologize for coming across as a stranger but I’m a private
detective who’s working in this particular case as you are. As I
was entering THE DINER I spotted a Waitress who was trying to
clean something from the floor so I helped her out while you
barged in out of nowhere. I had no choice but to make something
up, though I suck at faking a story.

AHMAD
Well, I’m glad that’s one case closed for today.

AHMAD hands over MARIAM to the Police by getting her inside the
back seat of the car as the officer drives off.

AHMAD
I hope that one day we can work together on another case, so
long as you hone your skills of deception.

The pair laugh it off as AHMAD thanks JAFAR for his contribution
as they part ways as the camera zooms out through the distance.

FADE OUT.
